Operating model design organisation in Norway
The problem this seat exists to solve
This appointment will advise on the division of responsibility between enterprise leadership and operating units. The mandate concerns where common direction adds value, where local knowledge should govern and how the enterprise can maintain visibility without repeatedly intervening in routine decisions. The advisor must make the resulting trade-offs explicit and operationally credible.
The centre and the operating units
Begin with consequential decision categories such as investment, service design, procurement and specialist capability. Compare formal authority with actual behaviour. Identify where the centre carries work that should be local, where units face incompatible standards and where an apparently decentralised choice creates enterprise-wide exposure. Investigate the information gaps that encourage unnecessary intervention.
Recommendations to develop
Create options for reserved decisions, common standards and delegated discretion. Describe the information required, mechanisms for challenge and conditions justifying escalation. Consider differences in unit maturity and risk without allowing every exception to become a permanent bespoke model.
Assess forums connecting the enterprise. Recommend which should decide, which should coordinate and which can be removed. Meeting design must follow a clear purpose; additional committees cannot substitute for resolving authority. Advise on how budgets, objectives and management appointments should support the chosen arrangement. Include the cost of maintaining the model and the management capability it requires.
How the advisor will work
Use case-based workshops and documentary evidence to test proposed rules. Present agreement separately from unresolved choices. Facilitate a coherent executive decision while preserving independent challenge. Implementation accountability and formal delegations remain with management and the governing body. Recommendations must not imply that statutory duties can be redistributed through an internal design exercise.
Test the model against a new issue
Qualified candidates have designed or operated federated organisations and understand the consequences of excessive centralisation and poorly governed autonomy. Experience across units with different capabilities is valuable. Applications should explain an exception policy that remained manageable over time.
The completed advice should include a decision-ready model, transition considerations and a review mechanism. Leaders should resolve new issues without inventing a forum each time. Quality means coherent enterprise stewardship alongside credible local responsibility, supported by information proportionate to the decisions being made.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Norway. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.

All seats in this market →Advisor on Performance Management for Cross-Functional Teams
Norway·Business Services & Diversified
Operating model design organisation in Norway
This engagement examines how performance measures influence cooperation across functions. It addresses situations where local targets encourage behaviour that weakens the overall service, product or customer outcome. The advisor will recommend a manageable measurement system that clarifies trade-offs and supports learning, rather than adding a larger reporting pack.
Advisor on Change Capacity and Workforce Adoption
Norway·Business Services & Diversified
Operating model design organisation in Norway
This advisory role examines whether an organisation has the managerial and workforce capacity to absorb its planned changes. It focuses on the interaction between operational demand, training, process redesign and competing initiatives. The advisor should identify where a programme relies on invisible employee effort and propose choices that make adoption achievable without compromising everyday service.
Advisor on Post-Acquisition Operating Integration
Norway·Business Services & Diversified
Operating model design organisation in Norway
The advisor will help leadership determine how acquired operations should connect to the wider enterprise. The work concerns operating choices: which capabilities should become common, which should remain distinct and what must be protected while leaders learn how the businesses function. Integration recommendations must follow the investment rationale and customer economics rather than a predetermined degree of consolidation.
