- What is India ID Exchange?
- India ID Exchange is a confidential, assessment-led marketplace for independent-director appointments in India. Companies use it to find board-ready directors for a specific governance need; accomplished leaders use it to be considered for board seats without putting themselves on a public jobs board. It is operated by Gladwin International, a retained executive-search firm founded in 2010 in Bengaluru.
- Who is it for?
- Two sides. On the demand side: nomination and remuneration committees, promoters, boards preparing for an IPO, and PE or VC investors placing a director on a portfolio board. On the supply side: sitting and former C-suite executives, functional specialists and existing directors building an independent-director portfolio.
- How does a company find a director through the Exchange?
- A board opens a mandate describing the governance problem the seat exists to solve — an audit committee that needs a chair who can read a bank's book, a board approaching an IPO, a family business professionalising. Candidates are matched against that brief, assessed for board readiness, and put forward as a shortlist. A company may post its mandate confidentially, without being named publicly.
- How does a director join?
- Registration is free. A director creates a profile, uploads a board CV and sits the board-readiness assessment at no cost. Free members can read every live board seat and apply to urgent ones. Foresight membership adds seats predicted from governance filings before they are advertised, disclosed remuneration, confidential mandates, and positioning by Gladwin's board practice.
- How does confidentiality work?
- It runs in both directions and it is enforced in the product, not promised in copy. A company can list a mandate without its name being public. A director's profile is never published to the open web, is not listed in a public directory, and is shown to a board only in the context of a mandate they are being considered for. Confidential briefs stay closed to non-members for the whole life of the posting.
- How is it different from the IICA Independent Directors Databank?
- They do different jobs and one does not replace the other. The IICA databank is the statutory registry: empanelment there, and the online proficiency self-assessment where it applies, are legal requirements under the Companies Act. India ID Exchange is a private marketplace — it confers no eligibility, issues no statutory credential, and is not a substitute for registration. A director generally needs the databank; they use the Exchange to actually be considered for seats.
- How is it different from a retained executive search?
- A retained search is a single mandate, priced per assignment, run end to end by consultants. The Exchange is standing infrastructure: mandates, candidates and governance data in one place, continuously. Gladwin runs retained board searches as well, and the two feed each other — retained mandates appear on the Exchange, and Exchange members are considered for retained searches.
- How is it different from LinkedIn or a public director database?
- A public database lists who is already a director. LinkedIn lists everyone and leaves a board to guess who is board-ready. The Exchange only carries candidates who have been assessed against the governance requirement, and it carries live mandates, including seats predicted from filed governance data before they are advertised anywhere.
- Where does the board-seat data come from?
- From filings, not from a survey. The Exchange reads the disclosed board composition, committee structure, tenure and remuneration of 3,790 listed Indian companies, and derives from that where seats are likely to open — a director approaching the statutory tenure limit, a committee short of the composition the rules require. Every figure shown traces back to a filed document.
- Who operates it, and what is Gladwin International's role?
- India ID Exchange is built and operated by Gladwin International Leadership Advisors. Gladwin's board practice runs the assessment, decides which candidates are put forward against a mandate, and conducts the retained searches that a portion of the mandates come from. The Exchange is the firm's board practice made continuous, not a separate company.
