Operating model design organisation in Norway

The problem this seat exists to solve

This engagement will advise on the relationship between internal service providers and the business units that depend on them. It covers choices between finance, human resources, technology and operational leadership: what should be standard, what merits variation, how demand is prioritised and how service costs are understood. The objective is a service model that users can navigate and leaders can hold accountable.

Service relationships worth governing

Begin with consequential services rather than a comprehensive catalogue. Examine demand, waiting time, failure demand, repeat contacts and the effort transferred back to users. Compare apparent unit-cost savings with the broader cost of delays and workarounds. Identify where the provider lacks authority to resolve a problem that it is expected to own.

The advisor's contribution

Develop service ownership options and propose a practical agreement between provider and recipient. Recommendations should address entry criteria, exceptions, escalation, data ownership and the treatment of peaks in demand. Clarify which measures reflect service quality and which merely show activity. Cost allocation proposals must be understandable enough to influence behaviour and should expose the risk of discouraging necessary use.

Facilitate decisions on retained local capability, specialist support and common processes. Where external sourcing is considered, assess the capacity required to manage suppliers and retain institutional knowledge. Advice should include transition safeguards and an evaluation design, particularly for services that affect pay, access or customer commitments.

**Expertise and independence.**

Candidates need practical experience designing or leading shared services and an ability to assess both provider economics and user experience. An application should describe a service agreement that required revision after implementation, and the lesson carried into later work. Relevant commercial relationships with potential suppliers must be disclosed.

**The decision to enable.**

Deliver a decision paper, service-specific recommendations and a pilot measurement approach. The advisor will not take over line operations or approve a sourcing award. The engagement concludes when leaders can identify the owner of a service failure, understand options for resolving it and evaluate improvement without creating an excessive administrative burden.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement

No office of director, and no appointment formalities.

An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Norway. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.

On this brief
Independence
Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
