Operating model design organisation in Norway
The problem this seat exists to solve
Candidates should demonstrate successful operating-model design in organisations combining digital services with established operations. Evidence should include an occasion when they rejected or narrowed a product-model proposal and explain why. Strong candidates connect organisational design to finance, architecture and people consequences without allowing any single discipline to dominate.
The design question
The advisory mandate is to determine which activities should operate around enduring products and services, and which should remain shared capabilities. Teams need enough autonomy to improve customer outcomes while retaining coherent architecture, financial discipline and dependable service operations. The advisor will provide choices that leaders can fund and govern, rather than recommending a fashionable organisational form.
A comparison grounded in work
Examine demand patterns, service dependencies, change backlogs and the economics of maintaining existing capabilities. Identify where handoffs create delay, where specialist capacity is genuinely scarce and where separate teams would duplicate effort. Develop alternative boundaries for product ownership, platform services and operational support, including the consequences for funding and performance assessment.
Each option should make its compromises visible. Explain what becomes simpler, which coordination burden remains, how incidents will be handled and who decides between local improvements and shared investment. Assess transition costs and the risk of changing reporting lines before workflows or information are ready.
What the advisory output must enable
The principal deliverables are an evidence-based recommendation, a testable pilot design and a sequence of leadership decisions. Workshops should use real planning disputes and service failures to test the proposed model. Define indicators such as elapsed time from validated demand to usable release, avoidable rework and total service cost. Separate a temporary transition problem from a structural flaw.
This is an advisory appointment. The advisor will challenge assumptions and facilitate choices but will not assume line management, approve expenditure or become the owner of delivery outcomes. Recommendations must identify the executive accountable for implementation.
The final recommendation should remain usable by managers after the advisor leaves, with unresolved uncertainties and review triggers stated plainly.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Norway. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
