Operating model design organisation in Norway

The problem this seat exists to solve

Candidates should have held senior operating or transformation responsibility in a complex organisation and implemented change beyond its initial launch. They must demonstrate judgement about sequencing, the ability to resolve competing executive interests and experience supporting managers through ambiguity. Applications should discuss a design compromise that improved implementation rather than simply describing a target model.

An executive remit across the operating system

This interim executive will lead implementation of an agreed enterprise operating model, bringing organisation, processes, technology and performance management into alignment. The role requires turning an architectural proposal into daily management practice. It includes resolving inconsistencies between functional responsibilities and end-to-end outcomes before those inconsistencies become permanent sources of conflict.

The initial review will establish which parts of the design are settled, which remain assumptions and where implementation depends on decisions not yet taken. Translate this into a transition plan covering service continuity, workforce consultation, data readiness and delegated authorities. Avoid announcing a new structure before managers understand what they must decide differently.

Implementation responsibilities

Lead the transition team and coordinate executive workstream owners. Establish a clear process for design exceptions so that legitimate local needs can be accommodated without recreating the previous model. Integrate role changes with planning, budgeting and performance conversations. Where the design proves unworkable, present an evidence-based amendment rather than forcing compliance with an obsolete diagram.

Manage approved resources, oversee readiness decisions and report transparently on unresolved dependencies. Material changes to the enterprise design, employment arrangements or reserved authorities require the relevant approval. Operational leaders remain accountable for services while participating in the transition. Maintain a realistic view of the management time needed to run existing operations and implement the change together.

Durability after the appointment

Completion will be assessed through functioning decision forums, clear service ownership and evidence that resource allocation follows the new model. Teams should resolve cross-functional issues without repeatedly returning to the transformation office. The successor must inherit documented decisions, remaining risks and an affordable approach to continuous adjustment. Structural change succeeds when it produces more dependable operating outcomes.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Norway usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in Norway
A non-resident non-executive director attending board meetings does not require a residence permit. Executive roles for non-EEA nationals do.
