The problem this seat exists to solve
This appointment addresses the operating friction created when several functions can block a decision but none can complete it. The director will examine recurring choices around customer commitments, spending, service exceptions and product priorities, then establish a workable allocation of decision rights. The assignment requires executive delivery: agreed changes must appear in budgets, delegated authorities, management routines and frontline guidance.
Where decisions lose momentum
The starting point is evidence from actual decisions. Trace a representative sample from request to resolution, identify repeated escalation loops and distinguish necessary challenge from duplicated approval. Interview operational teams separately from senior sponsors so that the redesign reflects how work moves rather than how an organisation chart suggests it should move.
Changes to put into operation
Translate the diagnosis into explicit decision domains. Each needs an accountable owner, financial limits, required consultation, information standards and an escalation route for genuine exceptions. Test these arrangements through live cases before extending them. Where a proposed delegation exposes a control weakness, repair the control rather than returning every choice to the executive team.
The director will coordinate finance, people, risk and technology leaders, resolve contradictory instructions and maintain a decision log explaining material trade-offs. Changes to statutory responsibilities or reserved board matters remain with the authorised governing body. Employment decisions must follow the appropriate internal process.
Selection and transfer of ownership
Suitable candidates have led operating-model implementation across several functions and can show how their intervention changed decision speed, quality and ownership. Applications should explain a contested delegation, the evidence used to resolve it and the consequences after implementation. Experience communicating with employee representatives and translating governance into practical workflows is valuable.
Success means fewer avoidable escalations, shorter decision cycles and consistent treatment of comparable cases, without a rise in uncontrolled commitments. The handover must include trained decision owners, a route for amending authorities and management information that exposes both delays and inappropriate shortcuts. A polished authority matrix alone will not complete the mandate.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Norway usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in Norway
- A non-resident non-executive director attending board meetings does not require a residence permit. Executive roles for non-EEA nationals do.
