Infrastructure finance organisation in Kenya
The problem this seat exists to solve
This adviser will strengthen the financial reasoning behind infrastructure investment submissions. The assignment calls for an experienced practitioner who can identify where an apparently complete proposal leaves decision-makers unable to distinguish evidence from assumption, strategic necessity from preference, or manageable risk from an unresolved dependency.
The advisory contribution to capital decisions
Outputs include independently reasoned reviews, revised decision requirements and practical guidance for proposal owners. The adviser neither holds a director appointment through this mandate nor votes on investments. Management remains accountable for submissions, and the authorised body retains approval responsibility. Success is visible when proposals present genuine choices, unresolved risks are explicit and subsequent oversight can trace performance back to the assumptions on which capital was committed.
Interrogate the investment before polishing the paper
Review selected proposals with the investment and operating teams. Trace the commercial rationale through expected cash flows, financing requirements and downside exposure. Examine alternatives that have been rejected, including the option to defer, stage or avoid the investment. Require a clear account of what must be true for the recommended course to succeed.
Candidates should have substantial experience assessing infrastructure investments and financing, with evidence of influencing difficult capital decisions. They need strong modelling literacy, but this is principally a judgement and communication role. An ability to challenge experienced project sponsors constructively and translate analysis into concise recommendations is essential.
Work through uncertainty with proposal owners
Help teams improve assumptions, scenario design and the explanation of uncertainty. Ensure sensitivity analysis reflects combinations of pressures that could occur together. Make visible the financing consequences of construction delay, weaker utilisation, higher maintenance needs or restricted cash movement. Where information is insufficient, propose a proportionate diligence step rather than filling the gap with unsupported precision.
Experience working with boards or investment committees should include understanding of their information needs and limits. Disclose any relationship with prospective lenders, contractors or advisers whose interests could affect the work.
Approval begins accountability
The adviser will also review how approval conditions are recorded and monitored. A strong investment paper should establish the basis for later accountability, including which changes require reconsideration and how benefits will be assessed after commissioning. Avoid burdensome documentation that adds volume without improving judgement.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Kenya. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
