The problem this seat exists to solve
The programme director will lead continuity planning and practical readiness for healthcare services exposed to infrastructure, supply or staffing disruption. The assignment is to connect risk scenarios with executable operating arrangements. A plan is useful only if teams know what to do, have the resources to do it and understand when clinical or executive decisions are required.
Prioritise essential service dependencies
Work with authorised clinical leaders to identify which services and patient groups are most affected by interruption. Map dependencies on power, water, communications, supplies, transport and key personnel. Distinguish arrangements already tested from those assumed to exist because they appear in a policy.
Exercise the operating response
Lead proportionate rehearsals and validation of contingency arrangements. Tests should examine communication, decision authority and practical resource availability, with safeguards to avoid disrupting live care. Record what failed and assign corrective actions with evidence required for closure.
Where continuity cannot be achieved with current resources, develop options for service adaptation, mutual support or investment. Clinical prioritisation and any change in care standards must remain with authorised professionals. The director must make limitations visible rather than promise uninterrupted operation under every scenario.
Candidate requirements
Relevant experience includes healthcare operations, continuity or complex service leadership with implemented preparedness work. Candidates need calm judgement, cross-functional coordination and the ability to work under resource constraints. Clinical experience may be helpful but does not replace local authorisation for any clinical duties; this is an operational leadership mandate.
Completion means tested ownership
The director will own programme execution within agreed delegation. Formal risk acceptance, clinical decisions and material expenditure remain with designated authorities. Leave usable procedures, trained owners and a schedule for maintaining readiness. Handover must identify residual gaps and the assumptions supporting each continuity objective.
Success should be assessed through demonstrated response capability and closure of important weaknesses. A completed document or successful tabletop discussion alone is insufficient where the critical uncertainty concerns whether equipment, supplies or external support will actually be available when the service needs them.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Kenya usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in Kenya
- A non-resident director attending board meetings travels on a business visa. Executive and resident roles require a work permit.
