Interim Healthcare Access and Scheduling Manager

Healthcare operations organisation in India
The problem this seat exists to solve
Patients should receive clearer appointment information and fewer avoidable cancellations, while clinical teams should have schedules that reflect the work they can responsibly deliver. The interim manager will lead the operational changes needed to achieve those outcomes across outpatient services. The remit includes booking, capacity visibility and the handling of changes, with clinical prioritisation retained by authorised practitioners.
Diagnose demand before changing the diary
Analyse appointment demand, nonattendance, cancellations and variation in consultation or procedure requirements. Review whether apparent unused capacity can actually be filled at short notice and whether patients receive information early enough to prepare. Identify delays caused by registration, diagnostics or authorisation that scheduling alone cannot solve.
Work with clinical and service managers to define appropriate appointment categories and escalation. Avoid increasing nominal capacity by compressing appointments without evidence that the service can support it. Where demand exceeds capacity, present the choices and their consequences transparently.
Implement the operating changes
Lead revisions to booking rules, cancellation handling and communication workflows within delegated authority. Establish ownership of waiting-list accuracy and a review process for patients whose next step is unclear. Test improvements with frontline staff and patients where practical, recognising that digital communication may not be equally accessible to everyone.
Qualifications and safeguards
Candidates need substantial healthcare administration or operations leadership, with direct experience improving access or scheduling. They should be able to interpret demand data, manage frontline adoption and work constructively with clinical teams. A clinical licence is not assumed or granted by the appointment; clinical assessment and prioritisation remain with authorised professionals.
Measure results through access, reliability, patient experience and workload together. A shorter reported wait is not a success if patients are removed from a list without receiving appropriate care or are shifted into a less visible queue.
The handover should include agreed scheduling rules, accountable owners and a practical dashboard that exposes exceptions. Material service changes and resource decisions remain with the relevant executives. The manager is accountable for delivering the approved operational improvements and making unresolved capacity limitations visible rather than obscuring them through reporting conventions.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in India usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in India
- A non-executive director attending board meetings travels on a business visa. An executive or whole-time role requires an employment visa.
