Commodity credit and warehousing organisation in India

The problem this seat exists to solve

Candidates need senior workout or restructuring experience involving commodity finance, inventory-backed credit or closely related physical collateral. They should offer evidence of negotiating difficult settlements, managing competing creditor interests and making recovery forecasts that distinguish cash received from promises made.

Experience needed at a difficult negotiation

Strong commercial judgement must be supported by disciplined documentation. The role requires an ability to work with independent valuers and legal advisers without outsourcing the executive decision. Experience leading teams under pressure is important, including maintaining consistent treatment of customers and preventing unsupported side agreements.

Recover value while preserving choices

The interim director will take executive responsibility for a defined portfolio of stressed commodity exposures. The work combines cash recovery, collateral protection and negotiations with borrowers whose commercial activity may still have value. The objective is to select and execute credible recovery routes, rather than extend facilities simply to avoid recognising deterioration.

Each case should begin with a common evidence pack: actual debt, repayment sources, verified stock, competing claims, contractual rights and the costs of delay. The director will distinguish borrowers experiencing temporary liquidity pressure from structures whose repayment assumptions no longer hold. Missing evidence must be treated as an active decision issue.

Keep negotiation connected to recoverable value

The role will lead borrower discussions and coordinate credit, operations, finance and external specialists. Options may include controlled sales, revised cash sweeps, additional security, consensual restructuring or enforcement recommended by counsel. Agreements must specify milestones, information requirements and consequences of non-performance.

Time matters. A commodity that can be stored safely for months creates different choices from inventory facing quality loss or costly handling. The director will compare likely realisations with storage, insurance, financing and legal costs, and challenge recovery plans that rely on optimistic market rebounds.

Concessions, escalation and continuity

The director may negotiate within approved parameters and direct the recovery team. Write-offs, material concessions, new money and enforcement actions remain subject to the relevant approval bodies. Where immediate stock protection is necessary, the appointee must use established emergency authorities and document the basis for action.

The completed assignment should leave approved case strategies, reliable cash forecasts and a successor able to continue negotiations without rebuilding the evidence. Lessons from losses should feed into credit origination and collateral policy, with accountability for addressing the weaknesses that made the exposures vulnerable.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in India usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in India
A non-executive director attending board meetings travels on a business visa. An executive or whole-time role requires an employment visa.
