Commodity credit and warehousing organisation in India
The problem this seat exists to solve
Candidates need experience in commodity portfolio risk, credit analytics or structured trade finance with meaningful physical-collateral exposure. They should demonstrate an ability to combine quantitative analysis with transaction understanding, and to explain the commercial consequences of a proposed risk limit.
An analytical mandate with a transaction perspective
This advisory mandate asks an experienced commodity credit specialist to identify concentrations that conventional borrower reporting may miss. The client requires an exposure map, stress analysis and recommended limits that management can use in portfolio decisions. The adviser will not act as a credit approver or assume responsibility for regulatory reporting.
Find the exposures hidden by the customer list
The work begins by testing the quality of the portfolio data. Borrowers, guarantors, buyers, warehouse operators, storage locations, financiers and transport dependencies may be recorded in separate systems. The adviser must explain where entities can be linked reliably and where apparent diversification rests on incomplete information.
Analysis should examine common repayment buyers, correlated commodity prices and reliance on individual collateral providers. The adviser will investigate whether multiple facilities finance different stages of the same underlying stock or commercial flow. Findings must distinguish established links from hypotheses requiring further evidence.
Stress connections, then consider the response
Stress scenarios should combine plausible events rather than shock one variable in isolation. Examples include a fall in commodity prices alongside slower stock liquidation, or a warehouse dispute that disrupts several otherwise unrelated borrowers. Recommendations must show how losses, liquidity needs and operational workload could develop together.
The adviser will facilitate discussions between risk, commercial and finance leaders on possible responses. These may include revised sublimits, changes to new-business priorities, additional verification or gradual reduction of exposures. Immediate exit is not automatically the best answer where it destroys recoverable value or transfers risk elsewhere in the portfolio.
The deliverable must survive practical use
The final pack should contain reproducible calculations, a clear data dictionary, a schedule of unresolved data weaknesses and governance for refreshing the analysis. Management should be able to see which proposed limits are supported by evidence and which require judgement because information remains incomplete.
The engagement requires intellectual independence and careful handling of confidential customer information. Success means that the organisation can recognise common vulnerabilities early, discuss them consistently and take proportionate action without treating a visually impressive exposure map as a substitute for credit judgement.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in India. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
