The problem this seat exists to solve

The advisor will evaluate how a hospitality group should define and maintain service standards across properties. The engagement must distinguish the elements essential to the guest promise from those that should reflect local context. It concerns practical operating standards, management capability and assurance rather than creating a large manual that employees cannot use.

Examine the experience and its causes

Review selected guest journeys, complaints, management observations and employee feedback across properties. Identify differences that add character and those that create unreliable service. Assess whether current standards describe meaningful outcomes or prescribe activities without explaining their purpose.

Look at the operating conditions required to deliver the standards: staffing, training, equipment, information and decision authority. A standard that cannot be supported consistently should be redesigned or resourced, not merely reinforced through inspection. Consider how new employees learn and how managers recognise competent performance.

Applicants should demonstrate senior multi-property hospitality experience and a record of improving service consistency. They must explain how they preserved local character while correcting a material quality gap. The ability to connect standards with actual operating resources is essential.

Recommendations to develop

Propose a concise set of non-negotiable service outcomes with room for justified local expression. Advise on training through real situations, proportionate review and the treatment of exceptions. Design a feedback route that turns guest and employee evidence into improvements rather than encouraging compliance theatre.

The advisor will not become the group quality director or conduct disciplinary assessments. Management retains operational accountability and decisions about people. Recommendations should identify who owns each standard and how changes are approved without creating unnecessary central control.

Testing standards under operating pressure

The engagement should leave usable guidance, a practical learning approach and evidence-based review criteria. Success means guests experience a dependable promise while employees understand the judgement expected of them. The design must work when demand is high or experienced staff are absent, reducing dependence on a few individuals who personally interpret the intended standard. It should also make legitimate variation explainable, so that flexibility supports the proposition rather than becoming an excuse for inconsistency.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement

No office of director, and no appointment formalities.

An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Switzerland. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.

On this brief
Independence
Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
