The problem this seat exists to solve

The final advice should state what the property can plausibly become, what it would take and what remains uncertain. Success means leadership can authorise a coherent programme with explicit trade-offs, rather than a collection of enhancements lacking a shared commercial logic. The operating plan must remain viable after the initial launch attention fades and ordinary demand patterns reassert themselves.

Determine what the new positioning requires

The advisor will support a decision on repositioning a hospitality property, connecting commercial ambition with service design and operating cost. The engagement must establish whether the proposed position is credible for the asset, market and management capability. It should identify changes that create meaningful guest value and distinguish them from expensive features with limited commercial purpose.

Evidence before design commitments

Review customer segments, competitive alternatives, rate performance and the reasons guests choose or reject the property. Examine the physical constraints and operating strengths that should shape the proposition. Test whether the intended target market is accessible through existing or realistically developable channels.

Assess the service implications of repositioning. A different price point may require changes in staffing, training, procurement, maintenance and management attention. Identify the cost and time needed to build those capabilities and the risks of marketing the new promise before they exist.

Options to compare

Develop alternative levels of change, from targeted service and commercial improvements to a broader transformation. Explain the capital requirement, transition disruption and expected operating consequences of each. Recommendations should address the effect on existing guests and employees, including the period when old and new elements coexist.

Use a staged approach where uncertainty warrants testing. Define evidence that would support expansion, modification or abandonment of the repositioning plan. The advisor will not approve capital, appoint designers or direct operations; technical and contractual matters require the responsible specialists.

Repositioning judgement to demonstrate

Applicants should demonstrate senior hotel leadership or advisory experience involving repositioning and commercial execution. They must discuss a project where the intended positioning changed after a realistic assessment of the asset or operating economics. Strong candidates connect guest insight with investment and implementation choices.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement

No office of director, and no appointment formalities.

An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Switzerland. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.

On this brief
Independence
Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
