The problem this seat exists to solve
The advisor will examine alignment between asset ownership priorities and hotel operating requirements. The engagement focuses on how budgets, service standards, capital needs and commercial decisions are discussed and resolved. It should improve the quality of the relationship without replacing either party's contractual responsibilities or acting as an informal adjudicator.
Experience required
Applicants should have senior hospitality management experience and exposure to owner–operator relationships. They must demonstrate an ability to understand investment priorities and the daily consequences of operating decisions. Applications should describe a disagreement resolved through clearer evidence or governance rather than personal persuasion alone.
Diagnose the points of friction
Review recurring disputes and identify whether they arise from unclear authority, incompatible expectations or different interpretations of performance. Examine the information provided for budget and capital decisions. Determine whether asset-condition concerns, service expectations and commercial forecasts are being considered together or presented as separate arguments.
Assess the cadence of meetings, escalation and approval. A process that works only when both sides agree is insufficient. The advisor should identify how exceptions and urgent decisions can be handled without weakening appropriate oversight.
Advice to develop
Recommend a practical decision framework, reporting improvements and a sequence for resolving outstanding issues. Clarify what information each party needs and which matters require specialist contractual advice. Test proposed arrangements against real cases such as a refurbishment, a change in service level or a trading shortfall.
The advisor will not interpret disputed legal rights conclusively, renegotiate agreements or exercise approval authority. Formal decisions remain with the authorised parties and qualified advisers where needed. Relevant commercial relationships must be disclosed before the engagement begins.
Testing the new decision arrangement
The final output should reduce ambiguity about who decides, what evidence is required and how disagreements progress. Success means more timely decisions and less effort spent reopening settled matters, while retaining appropriate challenge. The relationship should become capable of managing changing conditions through a clear process, rather than depending on a temporary advisor to translate every issue between the asset and operating perspectives.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Switzerland. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
