The problem this seat exists to solve
This engagement will advise a hospitality leadership team on whether its commercial and service arrangements are ready for opening. The focus is the guest-facing operating promise: what has been sold, what can be delivered and how early demand will be managed. The advisor will provide independent readiness judgement without assuming executive control of the opening team.
Examine commitments already made
Review bookings, distribution arrangements, group commitments and promotional claims against available rooms, amenities and service capability. Identify mismatches that could damage trust during the first operating period. Assess whether sales assumptions reflect the actual ramp-up of staffing, supplier reliability and service routines.
Applicants should have led or advised hotel openings with direct exposure to commercial and operating outcomes. They must describe a readiness judgement that changed the opening plan and explain why. Experience coordinating sales, rooms, food and beverage and guest services is essential.
Test the guest journey before it becomes live
Walk through reservations, arrival, room readiness, dining, payment and problem resolution using realistic cases. Include late changes, accessibility needs, high occupancy and unavailable facilities. Determine whether teams understand who can decide exceptions and what information they need to resolve them.
Recommendations should prioritise the gaps most consequential to the guest and commercial position. Advise on controlled opening options, communication, demand pacing and the evidence required before accepting additional commitments. Any recommendation to narrow the initial offer should explain its revenue and reputational consequences.
The opening decision remains with management
The advisor will not approve opening, direct employees or negotiate customer compensation. Management retains operating decisions, with technical safety and applicable requirements reviewed by the responsible specialists. The advisor's findings must be clear enough to support those decisions and identify unresolved issues honestly.
The engagement concludes with a practical readiness assessment, prioritised actions and criteria for expanding the offer. Success is an opening that the business can deliver credibly, supported by a realistic plan for stabilising service. A fully populated sales calendar should not be mistaken for evidence that the operating organisation is ready to meet every promise it contains.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Switzerland. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
