Deep technology and semiconductors organisation in Switzerland
The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will help the board govern financing and investment decisions in a deep-technology business. The remit is to examine whether the capital plan reflects development uncertainty, commercial timing and the capabilities needed to deliver. It is a board role for someone who can evaluate both technical milestones and financial resilience without reducing one to the other.
Scrutinise the runway assumptions
Review expenditure plans, expected customer receipts and the timing of future funding needs. Challenge assumptions about qualification, product readiness and revenue conversion. The board should understand which delays consume cash without reducing scope, and which choices management can make to preserve options.
Assess whether proposed milestones provide meaningful evidence for investors and for the organisation's own decisions. A milestone should not be chosen only because it is easy to present. Ask what is learned, what uncertainty remains and what commitments follow if the result is positive.
Candidate experience
Candidates should bring senior executive, founder, investment or board experience in deep technology, with direct involvement in capital planning and commercialisation. They need financial literacy, technical judgement and the ability to challenge optimistic narratives respectfully. A record of helping a business adapt its plan when financing or development conditions changed is especially relevant.
Board responsibilities
Review financing alternatives with attention to governance, future flexibility and the resources required to execute the strategy. Specialist advisers should address transaction and legal detail. The director must not treat fundraising itself as evidence that the operating thesis has been validated.
This is an independent director seat with collective responsibility. It does not make the director a placement agent or authorise them to solicit investment on management's behalf. Any committee duties will be defined at appointment.
The desired contribution is a realistic capital plan, explicit decision triggers and a clear relationship between investment and evidence. Candidates must disclose holdings, fund relationships and advisory interests that may affect independence. They should be prepared to recommend a narrower strategy when that offers a more credible route to sustainable value than pursuing every technical opportunity simultaneously.
