The problem this seat exists to solve
Can the business meet service and payment commitments when customer receipts, supplier demands or banking arrangements change unexpectedly? This director will help the board answer that question through independent oversight of liquidity and treasury risk in aviation services. The role is grounded in operating cash flows, not merely the size of reported cash balances.
Examine the dependencies
Review customer payment patterns, supplier prepayments, currency exposures and the timing of refunds or claims. Challenge management to show how these interact under stress. A disruption may increase payment demands at the same time as expected receipts are delayed, and separate reports can conceal that combined effect.
Assess concentration in banking and payment channels, including operational resilience and authorised access. Review the treasury policy and the evidence that it governs actual practice. Hedging or liquidity instruments should be understood in relation to the underlying exposure, with specialist advice where necessary.
Require an executable contingency
Ask management to identify warning indicators, decision owners and response lead times. Contingency options must recognise commercial and service consequences, not assume that commitments can be deferred without cost. The director should challenge reliance on uncommitted support or assets that may be difficult to realise quickly.
Candidate evidence
Candidates need senior treasury, group-finance or board experience in aviation services, travel or another relevant international service business. They should demonstrate judgement under liquidity pressure and the ability to interpret financial instruments without overcomplicating board discussion. Experience with multi-currency cash flows is particularly relevant.
This is a board seat with collective responsibility. The director will not execute treasury transactions, approve payments or negotiate banking terms on management's behalf. Any committee responsibilities will be agreed for the appointment.
The contribution should produce a clearer view of usable liquidity, more realistic stress analysis and timely decisions when conditions change. Independence from banks, brokers and advisers must be transparent. Candidates should be willing to support proportionate resilience investment while also questioning buffers or structures whose cost is not justified by the exposure they are intended to address.
