Industrial technology organisation in Switzerland
The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will help the board assess whether the product and solution portfolio is creating customer value or accumulating avoidable complexity. Industrial technology businesses can carry overlapping offerings, bespoke variants and legacy commitments that consume engineering and support capacity while obscuring the economics of growth.
The cost of keeping every offering
Review how management measures profitability and strategic value across products, customer segments and delivery models. Ask whether shared costs and support obligations are allocated in ways that reveal rather than conceal weak economics. Examine the consequences of simplifying offers for customers, partners and the installed base.
Who can judge simplification responsibly
Applicants need substantial industrial technology commercial or general-management experience, including responsibility for a broad product or solution portfolio. They should have worked through decisions involving product withdrawal, standardisation or reallocation of investment. Strong financial literacy and understanding of enterprise customer behaviour are essential.
An effective applicant can explain how they handled customers affected by a strategic change and what they learned when expected simplification benefits failed to appear. Independent judgement is more important than advocacy for a particular portfolio methodology.
A transition customers can live with
Assess proposals to consolidate platforms, retire variants or standardise solutions against actual customer needs and contractual commitments. Require clarity on migration costs, revenue at risk and the capabilities freed for higher-value work. Challenge claims that simplification will produce benefits without changing sales incentives or approval processes for new customisation.
Scalability, oversight and evidence of benefit
This appointment calls for senior commercial judgement informed by product delivery and customer relationships. The director must be able to challenge both indiscriminate rationalisation and the assumption that every existing offering deserves continued investment.
The director will support a disciplined balance between market responsiveness and scalable delivery. Board reporting should show whether portfolio choices improve margin quality, speed of execution and customer outcomes, not merely reduce the number of product names.
The director will contribute to collective decisions, scrutinise material investment and follow outcomes over time. Eligibility, independence and conflicts will be reviewed for the appointment. Management remains responsible for product actions and customer communication. The role succeeds when the board understands the true cost of complexity and can make deliberate portfolio choices with credible transition plans rather than relying on broad efficiency claims.
