Board succession and governance organisation in Belgium
The problem this seat exists to solve
This advisory mandate focuses on the period between appointment and meaningful board contribution. A new director may possess strong expertise yet struggle to understand the organisation's economics, informal decision patterns or unresolved risks. The adviser will design and support an induction approach that addresses those practical needs without overwhelming the director with documents.
Help new directors become effective earlier
Begin by identifying the decisions the board is likely to face and the knowledge required to engage with them. Review available materials, access to executives and opportunities to understand operations. Distinguish essential grounding from information that can be acquired later.
Build understanding around real responsibilities
Develop a learning sequence covering the business model, financial drivers, principal risks, governance boundaries and committee obligations. Recommend targeted conversations and operational exposure appropriate to the seat. Ensure new directors understand where assurance comes from, how to request information and how to challenge without bypassing established accountability.
The adviser should also examine how the existing board welcomes and uses new perspectives. Induction is incomplete if a director receives information but encounters no opportunity to contribute. Propose ways for the chair and committee leaders to test understanding, surface questions and address gaps without making the process performative.
Professional requirements
Candidates need experience in board development, governance advisory or senior director assessment, with a practical understanding of non-executive work. They should be able to translate a complex organisation into a coherent learning path and distinguish orientation from executive training. Strong facilitation, confidentiality and concise writing are essential.
Applicants should demonstrate how they have adapted induction to a director's responsibilities while preserving appropriate consistency. Experience identifying misunderstandings about authority or committee remit will be particularly relevant.
Deliverables and success
Provide a tailored induction plan, a curated information structure and a method for reviewing early effectiveness. The chair and board retain responsibility for integration and evaluation; the adviser neither supervises directors nor certifies their fitness. Any access to sensitive information must be agreed and controlled. Success is earlier, better informed contribution to real board decisions, with fewer avoidable gaps in understanding and a clear route for continuing development after the initial induction period has ended.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Belgium. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.

Belgium·Business Services & Diversified
Organisational recovery organisation in Belgium
The director will take executive responsibility for an operating integration requiring renewed direction. The mandate concerns unresolved interfaces, duplicated responsibilities and benefits that have not become normal business performance. It requires reassessing the remaining work and implementing a credible plan rather than simply reviving the original programme schedule.
Interim Technology Supplier Delivery Director
Belgium·Technology & Digital Platforms
Secure software delivery organisation in Belgium
The role carries executive responsibility for the agreed delivery plan and coordination of internal and supplier work. Contract amendments, settlement decisions and material expenditure remain with authorised officers. The engagement should conclude with accepted capability, clear support responsibilities and a documented position on outstanding work or claims. Handover must make any remaining supplier dependence visible. Success is a service the organisation can operate and govern, rather than a collection of completed supplier milestones that leaves the most important integration work unresolved.
Interim Technology Modernisation Programme Director
Belgium·Technology & Digital Platforms
Secure software delivery organisation in Belgium
Candidates should have led substantial technology-enabled change in a controlled or public-interest service environment. They need strong programme leadership, technical fluency and evidence of managing stakeholders with different objectives. Seniority should be demonstrated through the complexity of decisions handled and outcomes delivered, not simply through a prior title.
