Aviation, travel and hospitality organisation in Mauritius
The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will join the board and audit committee work of a cross-border aviation or hospitality services group. The focus is the reliability of financial reporting across entities with different operating conditions, systems and finance capacity. The appointment requires attention to what disappears in consolidation as well as what remains visible in the group result.
The consolidated result must be explainable by entity
Review intercompany balances, shared-cost allocations and material consolidation adjustments. Ask whether local finance teams understand group requirements and whether central corrections are recurring. Examine the evidence supporting estimates, revenue cut-off and obligations that may be recorded differently across businesses.
Governance of cross-border commitments
Scrutinise guarantees, intercompany funding and related-party arrangements presented to the board. Papers should identify which entity benefits, which carries the exposure and what approvals or specialist advice are required. The director must not assume that consolidated ownership makes every transfer or commitment operationally straightforward.
Work with the committee chair and assurance providers to focus review on material risks and weak information. Encourage direct reporting of unresolved issues and require management to distinguish a temporary gap from a persistent lack of capability. The board needs a realistic remediation plan rather than an indefinite dependence on external correction.
Qualifications and expected contribution
Candidates should bring substantial international group-finance, audit or board experience, ideally with aviation, travel or hospitality exposure. A relevant accounting qualification or equivalent expertise is expected. They need to communicate clearly across different professional and cultural settings and know when specialist local advice is necessary.
The appointment is a full director seat with agreed committee responsibilities. Management remains responsible for financial statements, controls and transaction execution. The director will not act as group controller or provide technical opinions outside their competence.
Success means a more transparent consolidated picture, clearer entity-level accountability and timely escalation of material financial judgements. Candidates must demonstrate independence and disclose relationships with owners, funders and professional advisers. The board will expect the director to follow important issues through to evidence of resolution, while keeping the committee's work proportionate to the exposures that matter.
