The problem this seat exists to solve
Candidates should have senior commercial-finance experience and a record of working effectively with sales and operations. Strong modelling skills are necessary, but so is the ability to question whether a measured margin reflects real economic behaviour. Relevant experience includes pricing governance, contract profitability and the resolution of disputes between revenue growth and cash discipline. The strongest candidates can show how their analysis changed a commercial decision and how the outcome was subsequently evaluated.
Determine which revenue is worth pursuing
The engagement examines how pricing, contractual terms and service obligations translate into economic contribution. The adviser will help management see where apparently attractive sales consume excessive capacity, cash or support effort. The objective is a practical decision framework for commercial teams, supported by reliable analysis rather than a blanket instruction to raise prices.
Begin by reconciling revenue and margin reporting to customer, product and channel economics. Review discounts, rebates, freight, returns, payment terms and special service commitments. Identify which costs are avoidable, which are shared and which are allocated in ways that can mislead decisions. The adviser must be explicit about the limits of available data and avoid false precision in customer-profitability rankings.
Pricing rules and justified exceptions
Develop options for price architecture, minimum order values, service tiers or renegotiation of specific terms. Test those options with commercial and operational leaders to understand likely customer responses and delivery constraints. A financially attractive change that cannot be administered consistently will not provide durable value.
Examine authority for exceptions. Sales teams need a clear route to approve a strategically justified concession, but repeated exceptions should trigger a review of the underlying proposition. Recommend measures that distinguish price realisation from mix changes and cost movements so management can understand whether actions are working.
Analysis management can maintain
Deliver a prioritised margin-improvement agenda, transparent analytical definitions and decision aids for proposals and renewals. Include a method for reviewing results after changes reach customers. Management retains ownership of pricing strategy, customer negotiations and contract approval; the adviser has no authority to impose new terms or contact customers without specific authorisation.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in the United Kingdom. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.

Cooperative or mutual agribusiness and food systems organisation

Interim Governance Director — Controls
United Kingdom·Agribusiness & Food
Cooperative or mutual agribusiness and food systems organisation
Aligning board succession with the work its portfolio requires is a 12-month task this member-owned agribusiness and food organisation is giving to an Interim Governance Director, reporting to the Board Chair.

Leave a controlled transaction process, documented reconciliations and a realistic backlog for remaining systems improvements. The permanent team should understand which exceptions require immediate action and which can follow a routine timetable. Management reporting must show unresolved exposure honestly rather than relying on the disappearance of old items from a spreadsheet.
