Agricultural commodities organisation in United Kingdom
The problem this seat exists to solve
Leave a controlled transaction process, documented reconciliations and a realistic backlog for remaining systems improvements. The permanent team should understand which exceptions require immediate action and which can follow a routine timetable. Management reporting must show unresolved exposure honestly rather than relying on the disappearance of old items from a spreadsheet.
Leadership and transaction authority
Candidates need direct commodity operations, trade control or middle-office leadership experience with physical agricultural products. They should demonstrate the ability to investigate detail, coordinate multiple functions and maintain discipline under commercial pressure. Within agreed delegation, the interim lead will own process execution and remediation priorities. They will not independently alter trading limits, approve new commercial exposures or settle material disputes without the relevant authority. The role demands both operational delivery and a transparent record of decisions made.
Reconcile the trade record with the physical reality
The interim lead will take operational responsibility for strengthening control over agricultural commodity transactions from booking to settlement. The assignment concerns the accuracy and completeness of the record used by trading, logistics, finance and risk teams. It requires active resolution of breaks and clear ownership of the process, not simply a report describing weaknesses.
Review trade capture, amendments, confirmations, shipment events and settlement records. Establish a prioritised inventory of unreconciled items and determine which may affect exposure, revenue or cash. Distinguish clerical backlog from issues that reveal a deeper failure in how transactions are authorised or handed between teams.
Implement practical control
Lead a daily or otherwise appropriate exception process with named owners and escalation thresholds. Ensure corrections are supported and traceable, rather than clearing differences through unexplained adjustments. Work with systems and finance colleagues to address recurring causes while maintaining an effective manual control where a permanent solution requires time.
Protect the history of material changes
Clarify responsibility for changes to quantity, quality, timing and counterparty details. Commercial urgency must not make the approved transaction impossible to reconstruct. Review access and approval arrangements so that the person creating a material change is not the only person verifying its effect.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the United Kingdom usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the United Kingdom
- A non-executive director attending board meetings does not require a work visa; permitted business activities cover it. An executive or interim operating role requires a Skilled Worker visa or equivalent.
