Transport and operational technology organisation in United Kingdom
The problem this seat exists to solve
Take executive responsibility for technology recovery capability in a transport service environment. The assignment is to establish whether critical services can be restored in a workable sequence when applications, communications or external connections become unavailable. A technically successful restoration is incomplete if frontline teams cannot resume a coherent service.
Recover a workable transport service
Build the recovery sequence around passenger or customer obligations, operating capacity and the information required to make safe decisions. Identify dependencies that invalidate otherwise credible recovery plans, including unavailable specialists, shared identity services and restoration instructions stored within the affected environment.
Commission controlled exercises with technology, operations, communications and service partners. Select scenarios that test difficult dependencies rather than rehearsing a familiar outage. Require participants to demonstrate how they will establish the current state of the service, authorise fallback activity and prevent inconsistent records when systems return.
Turn failed assumptions into funded decisions
Turn findings into funded actions with accountable owners. Where recovery expectations exceed technical or operational capacity, present the gap openly and secure an executive decision about investment, reduced exposure or revised service assumptions. Own the technology remediation programme and the readiness of internal and contracted support.
Leadership under disruption
Qualified candidates will have held senior responsibility for service restoration in transport, logistics, utilities or other time-sensitive infrastructure. Show how recovery objectives were derived from business consequences, how recovery capability was tested and how an exercise changed a subsequent investment or operating decision.
The role calls for calm leadership across technical specialisms and frontline management. Candidates should be able to distinguish incident command from ordinary project governance and to prevent senior stakeholders from issuing conflicting recovery instructions. Experience handling a major incident is valuable when accompanied by disciplined learning and demonstrable improvement afterwards.
Transfer restoration capability
Leave practical restoration runbooks, a dependency-led exercise schedule and an executive view of residual exposure. Establish who can declare a service operationally recovered and what evidence that declaration requires. Ensure that temporary recovery tools, exceptional access and emergency data corrections are reconciled after use.
The assignment ends with teams able to demonstrate their roles without relying on the interim CIO's personal intervention. Assessment will focus on credible restoration evidence, fewer unowned recovery dependencies and a clear relationship between technology availability and the level of service that can actually be offered.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the United Kingdom usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the United Kingdom
- A non-executive director attending board meetings does not require a work visa; permitted business activities cover it. An executive or interim operating role requires a Skilled Worker visa or equivalent.

Cooperative or mutual agribusiness and food systems organisation

Interim Governance Director — Controls
United Kingdom·Agribusiness & Food
Cooperative or mutual agribusiness and food systems organisation
Aligning board succession with the work its portfolio requires is a 12-month task this member-owned agribusiness and food organisation is giving to an Interim Governance Director, reporting to the Board Chair.

Leave a controlled transaction process, documented reconciliations and a realistic backlog for remaining systems improvements. The permanent team should understand which exceptions require immediate action and which can follow a routine timetable. Management reporting must show unresolved exposure honestly rather than relying on the disappearance of old items from a spreadsheet.
