The problem this seat exists to solve
This mandate requires an executive who has separated technology operations while maintaining business continuity. Applicants should demonstrate direct responsibility for service, security, cost and transition decisions. A history of producing separation plans without carrying the operating consequences will not provide sufficient evidence.
What must become independent
The interim CIO will establish the technology capability required for a business to operate beyond shared systems and services. Determine which applications, data, identities, contracts and specialist skills remain dependent on the wider environment. Classify dependencies by business impact and the difficulty of replacing them, then build a credible exit sequence.
The CIO will lead the authorised technology team, manage the approved budget and coordinate business owners around decisions affecting service. Temporary arrangements must have clear scope, responsibilities and exit conditions. The executive should distinguish a genuinely necessary transitional dependency from one retained because no owner has confronted the decision.
Security at the boundary
Design access and information handling for the changing organisational perimeter. Ensure that data movement, retained records and supplier access are reviewed by appropriate specialists. Validate recovery arrangements before critical services move. The separation must not leave broad access in place merely because removing it is administratively difficult.
A readiness decision supported by evidence
Use rehearsals and operating tests to demonstrate that support, monitoring and escalation work. Present material residual risks and options to the accountable executive or governing body. Transaction deadlines do not remove the need for an explicit readiness judgement. Contractual, legal and reserved capital decisions remain with authorised owners.
Beyond technical cutover
Establish service ownership, operating costs and a practical residual improvement plan. The business should know how incidents will be handled and how suppliers will be governed after the temporary programme ends. Avoid leaving an independent organisation with an undocumented collection of short-term workarounds.
Selection will explore a separation in which the candidate challenged an unrealistic assumption and the consequences of that decision. Success in the role means functioning independent services, controlled access and an achievable exit from remaining temporary support, with clear accountability transferred to the permanent technology leadership.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the United Kingdom usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the United Kingdom
- A non-executive director attending board meetings does not require a work visa; permitted business activities cover it. An executive or interim operating role requires a Skilled Worker visa or equivalent.

Interim Governance Director — Controls
United Kingdom·Agribusiness & Food
Cooperative or mutual agribusiness and food systems organisation

Leave a controlled transaction process, documented reconciliations and a realistic backlog for remaining systems improvements. The permanent team should understand which exceptions require immediate action and which can follow a routine timetable. Management reporting must show unresolved exposure honestly rather than relying on the disappearance of old items from a spreadsheet.
