Secure software delivery organisation in United Kingdom

The problem this seat exists to solve

The role carries responsibility for the agreed programme and its delivery coordination, with risk acceptance and material expenditure retained by designated owners. The engagement should leave tested procedures, trained participants and a prioritised account of residual gaps. Handover must explain the conditions under which recovery objectives can be met and the assumptions on which they depend. Success is a credible, maintained recovery capability that the permanent organisation can exercise again without relying on the interim lead's personal knowledge.

Prove that essential engineering services can recover

The programme lead will deliver continuity and recovery improvements for the technology services that support engineering and controlled software delivery. The scope includes the tools, repositories, identity services and operating knowledge required to rebuild or restore delivery capability. The assignment must turn stated recovery expectations into tested arrangements with accountable owners.

Map critical dependencies and identify the consequences of losing each for different periods. Review backup, restoration and alternative-working arrangements against actual service needs. Determine whether recovery depends on access, people or documentation that could be unavailable during the same event.

Exercise, remediate and revisit objectives

Create a prioritised programme of recovery exercises and remediation. Tests should examine the ability to restore usable service, not merely confirm that a backup job reports success. Coordinate with security and service owners so that exercises are authorised and do not introduce uncontrolled risk to live operations.

Resolve gaps through explicit work packages, owners and acceptance evidence. Where the desired recovery objective cannot be met with current investment or architecture, present realistic options and consequences to the authorised decision-makers. The lead must avoid allowing an aspirational objective to remain in policy after evidence has shown it is unsupported.

The programme leader required

Candidates need technical continuity, infrastructure or engineering operations leadership with direct experience of recovery testing and improvement. They should understand dependencies across delivery platforms and be able to organise teams under demanding conditions. Evidence of correcting a failed recovery exercise is more informative than a history of exercises that never challenged the arrangements.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the United Kingdom usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in the United Kingdom
A non-executive director attending board meetings does not require a work visa; permitted business activities cover it. An executive or interim operating role requires a Skilled Worker visa or equivalent.

Leave a controlled transaction process, documented reconciliations and a realistic backlog for remaining systems improvements. The permanent team should understand which exceptions require immediate action and which can follow a routine timetable. Management reporting must show unresolved exposure honestly rather than relying on the disappearance of old items from a spreadsheet.
