Interim Secure Cloud Migration Director

Secure software delivery organisation in United Kingdom

The problem this seat exists to solve

Candidates require senior cloud migration or technology transformation leadership with direct delivery accountability. They need sufficient technical depth to evaluate architecture and operational readiness, alongside the ability to manage suppliers and business stakeholders. Experience in controlled environments is important; familiarity with a cloud platform alone does not establish readiness for this mandate.

Move services with their operating obligations intact

The director will lead migration of selected technology services to a cloud environment under defined security and assurance requirements. The assignment includes discovery, sequencing, readiness and transition into operations. It must preserve service obligations and make the cost and control implications of the new environment explicit.

Establish a dependable inventory of applications, data flows, integrations and operational dependencies. Determine which services are suitable for the proposed migration path and which require redesign or further evidence. Avoid treating a successful technical move as proof that the service is secure, supportable or economically justified.

Acceptance, economics and wave decisions

Lead migration planning with service owners, engineering, security and commercial colleagues. Define acceptance evidence for access, resilience, monitoring, data handling and recovery. Ensure cost estimates include parallel operation, connectivity, support and the work required to retire the old environment.

Coordinate migration waves around risk and dependency, with tested rollback or recovery arrangements. Where the preferred approach creates a material change in exposure, bring a clear decision to the authorised owner. The director should challenge both unnecessary delay and pressure to move a service before its operating requirements are understood.

Operable services and a transparent legacy position

Within delegated authority, the director will control delivery priorities, migration coordination and programme resources. Formal risk acceptance and material commercial commitments remain with designated executives. The engagement should conclude with migrated services in stable ownership, costs visible and legacy dependencies either retired or explicitly managed. Handover must include unresolved controls, retained environments and the reasons for any departures from the original migration plan. The final account should distinguish completed movement from benefits that still require further operational change.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the United Kingdom usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in the United Kingdom
A non-executive director attending board meetings does not require a work visa; permitted business activities cover it. An executive or interim operating role requires a Skilled Worker visa or equivalent.

Leave a controlled transaction process, documented reconciliations and a realistic backlog for remaining systems improvements. The permanent team should understand which exceptions require immediate action and which can follow a routine timetable. Management reporting must show unresolved exposure honestly rather than relying on the disappearance of old items from a spreadsheet.
