The problem this seat exists to solve

This turnaround mandate focuses on the operating choices behind manufacturing underperformance: capacity deployment, plant responsibilities, production complexity and the reliability of execution. The appointee must connect site-level decisions to enterprise cash and customer outcomes.

A programme built from operating facts

Establish a comparable view of conversion costs, throughput constraints, scrap, schedule adherence and maintenance needs. Distinguish poor utilisation from structurally uncompetitive processes before recommending capacity changes. Examine the full cost of moving products between sites, including qualification, transport, inventory buffers and disruption risk.

Responsibilities across the production system

Lead the sequencing of restructuring actions with site leaders, finance, commercial teams and workforce specialists. Resolve conflicts over capacity allocation and investment priorities. Make implementation dependencies visible and ensure critical customer commitments are covered during transition. Benefits should be measured after transfer costs, temporary inefficiencies and the investment required to stabilise the new arrangement.

For a proposed production transfer, require a transition plan covering equipment, tooling, qualification, staff capability, inventory buffers and customer acceptance. Establish what must be demonstrated before the receiving site takes full responsibility and what contingency exists if output quality or schedule adherence deteriorates. Track total delivered cost during the transition rather than declaring savings when a local cost centre closes. The leader should also identify which management routines must change so that the revised footprint does not recreate the same planning and accountability failures.

Candidates who can carry the mandate

This role suits an operational transformation leader with demonstrated responsibility for a manufacturing turnaround. Candidates should be able to discuss a difficult footprint or capacity decision, the alternatives rejected and the consequences observed after implementation. They need practical experience working through workforce consultation with appropriate local support, alongside disciplined safety and quality judgement.

Sustainable results

The desired outcome is a workable production configuration, reliable delivery and a management cadence that exposes emerging constraints. A plan is incomplete if it improves reported unit costs while increasing inventory, expediting charges or customer failure. The interim leader must leave local managers able to own the revised operating model.

Interim executive

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim mandate needs work authorisation. A board seat in Denmark usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in Denmark
A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no permit. Executive roles for non-EU/EEA nationals require a residence and work permit.
