Help a board see the work its promise leaves behind

My contribution to a board

I would help directors examine the promise a customer is likely to hear and the capability the enterprise has actually committed to provide. A preferred-contractor label can imply responsibility for work the lender does not supervise. A completed repayment can leave documents or charge-related tasks unfinished. These distinctions affect the company's relationship with the customer even when an internal status is accurate. My contribution would be to ask how management knows what people understand, what happens when they need assistance and whether the operating cost is carried into the product decision. I would not ask the board to redesign screens or approve individual loans. I would bring evidence of changing my own view, including withdrawal of a proposition I had supported, while relying on complementary finance, legal, risk and sector skills. I have no statutory-board experience and would need induction into the whole enterprise, including matters beyond my familiar customer and product work.

Judgement in practice

01

Withdrawing the contractor promise I had helped create

Fourteen of thirty-eight prospective users interpreted a preferred-contractor panel as assurance about the quality of the work. I had supported the idea as a useful way to help households begin and bring relevant business to the lender. We did not have the service capability behind that interpretation. I withdrew the ranked-referral proposition, with ₹24 lakh rework and ₹18 crore projected annual sourced volume foregone. I would bring the case to a board as a question about the meaning and ownership of a customer promise. The projected volume is not a realised loss, and the decision does not establish that every possible referral arrangement would be unsuitable. It shows why the evidence should be able to change a commercially attractive plan.

02

Keeping a different evidence route inside the same credit responsibility

Twenty-nine of eighty-four self-employed applicants could not represent their circumstances through a constant monthly-salary field. The revised route used a twelve-month evidence calendar and qualified underwriting review. Nineteen of those twenty-nine subsequently completed the required evidence while ten still needed further work; those counts are not loan approvals. The change carried ₹42 lakh project expense and two support analysts costing ₹14 lakh annually, kept separate. At oversight level, I would ask whether product convenience has become an accidental eligibility rule and whether the alternative route has the professional capacity it requires. A broader way to present evidence should not be described as weaker credit standards or an entitlement to a loan.

03

Following repayment into the remaining service tasks

A review within ten days of repayment found 118 of 180 accounts with the reviewed tasks complete and 62 still in process. The latter comprised 54 document-collection cases and eight charge-update verification cases, without overlap. Portal access had closed at zero balance even though other contact channels remained. The revised service view cost ₹28 lakh and took five weeks. It kept controlled access and status available while authorised teams finished the work. I would ask directors to distinguish a better customer route from actual completion of documents and charge actions. The product change neither extends an applicable deadline nor proves compliance. A later cohort is useful operational evidence but cannot, by itself, establish the redesign caused a better outcome.

My first year on a board

I would begin by learning the enterprise's actual service obligations, economics and principal relationships, then the chair's expectations of a first-time director. A company may use familiar product language for a materially different promise, so I would ask management to explain the customer's task and the responsibilities behind each milestone. Agreed induction visits and research observations could help me understand that account without creating an informal instruction channel to staff. I would learn the board's committee mandates and use qualified colleagues to examine regulatory and financial matters outside my experience. Over successive meetings I would follow whether identified customer needs have an owner, capacity and a credible way to assess progress. I would also ask for feedback on whether my contribution improves collective judgement or draws the discussion too far into executive product detail. A useful first year would establish that discipline, rather than produce a list of interface changes attributed to a new director.

Conflicts and their management

Before confidential engagement I would disclose relevant employer, ownership, investor, contractor, borrower and service-provider relationships, together with personal interests. A prospective company may share a supplier or commercial channel with Qevluri even when its principal business appears different. Qualified advisers should assess the circumstances under applicable company-law, independence and listing requirements where relevant. I would not assume that absence of a personal shareholding resolves those questions. The practical effect of recusal also matters: if the relationship prevents useful participation in a central part of the agenda, declining the role may be more responsible. Employer consent, confidentiality and realistic time need consideration before accepting papers. I would not bring customer research recordings, borrower documents or private product plans from my executive work into another organisation. Experience can improve my questions without transferring evidence that belongs to someone else. Any outside contribution must respect those boundaries throughout the appointment, not only at its beginning.

My independence statement

Qevluri's controlling-family interests, investors, borrowers, contractors and service-provider relationships may intersect with another company's agenda. I have no personal or employee-vehicle allocation, but that fact cannot establish independence for a particular appointment.
