After degraded communications triggered unsafe dispatch recommendations and severe queuing, a copper producer needs an eighteen-month executive to recover autonomous fleet intelligence and complete a tested succession.
The mandate
The dispatch-intelligence head resigned during review of an event in which intermittent pit communications left optimisation agents working from stale haul-road and queue states. Supervisors intervened before injury, but trucks accumulated in a constrained zone, production fell sharply and competing logs prevent agreement on when recommendations became operationally unsafe.
The interim must establish a Santiago and mine-site rhythm within three weeks and lead for eighteen months. A permanent search launches after degraded-mode controls pass the first wet-season exercise, expected around month eleven, with eight weeks reserved for the successor to shadow daily control and then command a full production planning cycle.
Handover requires trustworthy state-age and confidence measures, automatic or operator-enforced reversion for every critical communications condition, three consecutive production periods inside signed safety and dispatch corridors, two unannounced control-room drills, and successor acceptance of the open mine-plan, network and autonomy dependency register. Tonnes moved without safe variability control will not constitute completion.
The leader may suspend autonomous dispatch features, set data-freshness and fallback limits, reprioritise engineering, reassign temporary specialists and move up to CLP 9 billion within the sanctioned recovery portfolio. Mine-plan changes, fleet purchases, permanent appointments, production-target revisions and capital above CLP 3 billion per decision need council approval; no output pressure may override a documented control-room stop.
Vehicle motion control, blasting design, long-range mine planning and communications-network replacement are explicitly out of scope. The mandate owns dispatch intelligence, operational state, recommendation authority, control-room adoption, release evidence and interfaces to those systems, while statutory mine and equipment accountabilities remain with their named leaders.
Why this seat is open
The communications event revealed that the optimisation layer lacked a clear point at which its recommendation authority expired. The responsible executive’s departure then left operations, autonomy and network teams interpreting the evidence through different objectives. Temporary command is needed to restore safe production decisions before a permanent leader inherits the mine’s next autonomy phase.
What you will own
- Reconstruct the event timeline across truck telemetry, network state, dispatch inputs, agent recommendations, operator actions and physical queue development.
- Define freshness, confidence and observability thresholds that determine when dispatch remains optimised, becomes constrained or reverts to manual control.
- Reconcile production objectives with road, equipment, fuel, charging, maintenance and exclusion-zone constraints inside an inspectable decision model.
- Establish promotion gates for policy, objective, map and integration changes using replay, simulation, shadow operation, operator review and rollback evidence.
- Redesign control-room roles so supervisors understand agent rationale, retain stop authority and can recover orderly dispatch under partial information.
- Command wet-season and communications-loss drills that measure detection, transition, queue dissipation, production recovery and evidence preservation.
- Transfer the state contract, model and rule inventory, decision log, production economics and talent assessment through a successor-led operating cycle.
Candidate qualifications
- Held enterprise leadership for autonomous haulage, mine dispatch optimisation or real-time industrial fleet intelligence at a large operating site.
- Personally managed an autonomy or dispatch event involving stale state, communications degradation, unsafe recommendation or control-room override.
- Joined mine planning, fleet condition, haul-road and production constraints into a deployed optimisation system with clear fallback behaviour.
- Built release evidence combining replay, simulation, shadow operation and observed production rather than relying on vendor acceptance tests.
- Earned control-room adoption by preserving operator authority, explanation and recovery practice while increasing automated decision scope.
- Handed recovered autonomous operations to permanent leadership after exercised degraded modes and measured production stability.
Non-negotiables
- Can begin within three weeks, maintain weekly travel from Santiago to the mine and satisfy all site fitness and safety requirements.
