Mining-Contractor Workforce-Integration Director mandate in Santiago, Chile · Open-Pit Copper Mining
A copper producer needs a twelve-week workforce integration after acquiring a maintenance contractor whose skills, rosters, supervision and safety records do not align with mine standards.
The mandate
A copper producer acquired its principal mobile-equipment maintenance contractor to secure capability and reduce fragmented supervision. The contractor records trades by broad category, rosters assume different fatigue rules and supervisor authority overlaps mine management. Employees expect owner benefits, while some specialist subcontractors remain outside the acquisition. The buyer needs a workforce integration design before Day One commitments or unsafe reporting ambiguity becomes embedded.
The twelve-week deliverable is an acquired-workforce fact base, skill and supervision map, employee-transition architecture and Day One readiness plan. Milestone one reconciles populations and terms in week three; milestone two validates work, competence and authority in week six; milestone three develops roster, reward and organisation options in week nine; milestone four supplies accepted decisions, employee cases, controls and implementation handoff.
The client will provide employee and subcontractor populations, roles, qualifications, rosters, hours, incidents, employment terms, pay and benefits, organisation charts, supervisor records, training, grievances and authorised mine access. Acceptance requires populations to reconcile to transaction scope, critical skills to map to observed maintenance work, supervisory interfaces to identify one accountable owner and internal HR to reproduce four employee transition cases.
Consultants will not certify trades or safety, select employees, set individual terms, negotiate collective arrangements, design maintenance strategy, conduct legal transfer or implement payroll. Mine and specialist authorities retain those responsibilities. The project will identify gaps and options but cannot declare an employee qualified or a roster safe solely from inherited records.
Outputs will distinguish acquired employee, retained subcontractor, temporary labour, supervisor and mine role. They must expose differences in fatigue, benefit, career, performance and grievance practice alongside operational consequence. Formal employee transfer, consultation, Day One execution and post-close integration are outside the twelve-week engagement.
Why this is external work
Buyer operations and contractor management have worked together for years but hold different views of who directs work and owns competence. Internal HR lacks capacity during acquisition close and may assume familiar arrangements will continue. External workforce integration specialists can create one evidence base without taking safety or employment authority.
What you will own
- Reconcile acquired employees, excluded subcontractors, contingent labour, roles, locations, terms and transaction treatment.
- Map maintenance tasks, trade qualifications, equipment knowledge, shift coverage and single-person capability dependencies.
- Clarify supervisor, mine manager, safety, planning and performance interfaces through accountable decision evidence.
- Compare rosters, fatigue controls, pay, benefits, leave, careers, grievances and manager practices across employers.
- Design converge, protect, transition, retrain and retain options with employee, safety, skill and cost consequences.
- Build Day One role, access, manager, roster, employee communication and exception-readiness controls.
- Deliver the formally accepted fact base, skill map, authority model, employee scenarios, risk register and implementation handoff plan.
Candidate qualifications

- Reconciled employee and subcontractor populations where the signed transaction perimeter differed materially from actual work teams.
- Mapped technical skills and supervisory authority using observed maintenance evidence rather than inherited titles.
- Compared roster, fatigue, benefit, career and grievance practices without making legal or safety conclusions.
- Worked credibly with mine operations, contractor leaders, employees and representatives under transaction deadlines.
- Left internal HR able to execute representative Day One cases and govern unresolved workforce differences independently.
Non-negotiables
- Can complete six Santiago, Calama, Antofagasta or Lima evidence sessions within twelve weeks.
- Will disclose mine operator, contractor, subcontractor, union, safety-adviser and transaction relationships.
