Transport and operational technology organisation in Ireland

The problem this seat exists to solve

Direct a migration of critical technology services in an infrastructure setting. The difficult work lies in maintaining an intelligible operating state while old and new systems coexist. The programme must prevent split ownership, incompatible records and recovery plans that assume the other environment remains available.

Control coexistence from first move to retirement

Establish the migration units that can move independently and identify dependencies that require coordinated transition. Define the conditions for entering, pausing and reversing each stage. Treat rollback as a demonstrated operational option, including the handling of transactions and changes made after a migration begins.

Plan the controlled withdrawal of the old environment, including records retention, residual interfaces, support commitments and access closure. Verify that no essential process remains dependent on an apparently retired component. Transfer the new service into ordinary operating governance with current documentation and trained support.

Cutover authority and readiness evidence

Own the integrated delivery plan, readiness evidence and coordination of technical teams and suppliers. Resolve sequencing conflicts through the consequences for service continuity, rather than the convenience of individual workstreams. Ensure the operating organisation understands which environment is authoritative at every stage.

The programme director recommends readiness and controls delivery execution; the designated service authority approves operational cutover. Success will be measured by coherent service ownership throughout transition, reconciled information and the permanent removal of dependencies that the migration was intended to replace.

Rehearse uncertainty and reconcile each stage

Run rehearsals that include imperfect conditions: delayed data transfer, unavailable specialists and inconsistent completion signals. Establish who can halt a migration and how that decision reaches all affected teams. After each stage, reconcile data, support ownership and access before proceeding. Do not allow successful initial operation to obscure defects that threaten later recoverability.

The migration record required

Applicants should have directed major migrations involving continuously operating services. Evidence must cover cutover planning, coexistence, data reconciliation and recovery decisions, with clear personal responsibility for delivery. A record limited to design or programme reporting will not meet the need.

Describe a migration where the original sequence proved unsuitable and explain how you revised it without losing control of the service. Strong candidates can distinguish a manageable deviation from a condition that invalidates the readiness decision. Experience leading internal teams and specialist suppliers through high-consequence change is essential.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Ireland usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in Ireland
A non-executive director attending board meetings does not require an employment permit. Executive roles for non-EEA nationals require one.
