Interim Director of Partner Ecosystem Operations

Professional services organisation in Ireland

The problem this seat exists to solve

The director will establish and run the operating framework for a service business that delivers part of its work through external specialists or partner organisations. The remit covers partner selection, assignment allocation, quality oversight and the treatment of delivery problems. It requires maintaining commercial flexibility while ensuring that the business remains accountable for commitments made to clients.

Bring visibility to the network

Create a practical view of partner capabilities, contractual responsibilities, capacity and concentration. Identify critical services dependent on informal relationships or undocumented knowledge. Assess how work is commissioned and whether partners receive adequate scope, information and supervision to deliver successfully.

Implement an agreed onboarding and review process proportionate to the work. Clarify who accepts delivery, who handles exceptions and how concerns about quality or confidentiality are escalated. Work with qualified specialists on contractual, data and professional obligations. The director must ensure these requirements become operating practices rather than remain in procurement documents.

Lead performance and commercial coordination

Manage the approved partner operations team and resolve allocation disputes. Introduce evidence-based reviews covering quality, responsiveness, economics and relationship health. Distinguish a partner capability problem from unclear instructions or unstable internal demand. Develop continuity options for critical dependencies without promising capacity that has not been secured.

Contract awards, material amendments and termination decisions remain subject to the relevant authority. The director will recommend actions, coordinate implementation and maintain an accurate record of commitments. Incentives should support reliable outcomes rather than simply the lowest apparent delivery cost.

**Delivery-network leadership required.**

Applicants should have led an external delivery network, supplier ecosystem or comparable operational model. They must show how they improved performance while retaining specialist partners and protecting client service. Experience handling a serious delivery failure, including the changes made afterwards, is important.

The network after the interim leader leaves

The permanent team should inherit clear partner ownership, useful performance evidence and credible contingency arrangements. Success means the business can scale external delivery without losing visibility of quality, obligations or total cost. The model must work through routine changes in personnel and demand, with neither the interim director nor a single relationship holder remaining indispensable.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Ireland usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in Ireland
A non-executive director attending board meetings does not require an employment permit. Executive roles for non-EEA nationals require one.
