The problem this seat exists to solve

Technology teams are delivering a large backlog while service incidents repeatedly interrupt planned work. The head of delivery will bring product demand, team capacity and operational reliability into a shared planning process that executives and teams can trust.

See the whole delivery system

You will review work in progress, team capacity and incident demand to identify the main sources of delivery unpredictability. First month: establish an integrated view of commitments, capacity and major reliability risks.

Daily leadership priorities

  • Establish prioritisation and planning routines with product owners and operational stakeholders.
  • Clarify service ownership, incident escalation and responsibility for recurring reliability problems.
  • Coach delivery leaders and improve dependency management across teams.
  • Provide concise reporting on outcomes, blocked decisions and reliability risks with explicit action ownership.

What progress should look like

By day 90: introduce a workable delivery cadence and resolve selected recurring service issues. By month six: demonstrate improved commitment reliability and service performance against baseline and transfer routines to permanent leaders.

Who will succeed in this role

The role requires senior technology delivery or DevOps management, experience leading multiple teams and practical service management judgement.

Additional useful experience includes experience improving delivery in public sector environments or organisations with substantial legacy dependencies.

Authority and engagement

The role carries executive delivery responsibility within an agreed budget and delegation. It reports to the CEO, or to the board where the appointment is for CEO. Major decisions follow the organisation’s reserved matters.

An initial six to nine months is envisaged, normally four to five days a week, including diagnosis and an orderly handover. Start date, remuneration, travel and on-site attendance will be agreed for the appointment.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim mandate needs work authorisation. A board seat in Finland usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in Finland
A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no permit. Executive roles for non-EU/EEA nationals require a residence permit for an employed person.
