The problem this seat exists to solve
This mandate will advise on commercial concentration in a service enterprise: reliance on a small number of clients, individual relationship holders or a narrow route to market. The objective is to make that dependence visible and manageable while preserving the relationships that support the business. Diversification recommendations must be economically credible rather than an assumption that every concentration is unacceptable.
Diagnose the different forms of exposure
Analyse revenue, contribution, cash collection and delivery capacity by client and service. Examine whether apparent diversity masks dependence on connected purchasing decisions or the same budget cycle. Identify relationships whose continuity relies on one professional and engagements where commercial leverage has shifted materially toward the buyer.
Assess the quality of account planning, contract visibility and succession in client-facing responsibilities. Review how knowledge is recorded and shared without diluting accountability or mishandling confidential information. Speak with leadership about the cost of expanding into unfamiliar markets compared with deepening existing relationships.
Advice to develop
Recommend a proportionate concentration framework, contingency actions and a sequence for strengthening relationship coverage. Distinguish immediate resilience measures from longer-term portfolio development. Proposals should include the cost of investment, management capacity and the risk of distracting delivery teams from current commitments.
The advisor will facilitate scenarios such as a major client reducing scope, delaying payment or changing procurement arrangements. Use these to test liquidity, capacity and management responses. Recommendations should identify what can be prepared in advance and which decisions would depend on circumstances at the time.
Evidence to include in an application
Candidates should have managed significant client portfolios or advised on commercial risk in expertise-led businesses. They need to connect relationship management with service economics and cash exposure. Evidence should include a case where diversification was achieved without compromising the established business, or where maintaining concentration was the better decision.
The mandate stops at a management decision
This role provides advice and analytical support; it does not own sales targets, negotiate client contracts or assume account leadership. The final output should give management a defensible view of dependence, practical mitigation choices and leading indicators that prompt action before a relationship change becomes an enterprise-wide crisis.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Spain. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
