Retail and franchise networks organisation in Spain
The problem this seat exists to solve
The interim operations director will establish a reliable performance-control process across a distribution or retail network and use it to lead corrective action. The mandate concerns operating outcomes, not reporting design alone. It requires an accurate view of what varies between locations and why.
Replace inconsistent reports with decisions managers can use
Reconcile definitions and data for sales, service, labour, inventory and controllable cost. Identify where reporting differences prevent meaningful comparison. Avoid forcing unlike locations into a single ranking without accounting for format, maturity and operating conditions.
Make the review process accountable
Set a cadence that focuses regional and site leaders on material issues and specific commitments. Ensure actions have owners, realistic dates and a clear route for resolving dependencies. Challenge repeated explanations that do not change decisions. Escalate structural problems that local managers cannot reasonably solve.
Lead improvements within executive delegation, coordinating with commercial, finance and supply teams where outcomes cross functional boundaries. Major investment or changes to the network model require appropriate approval. The director must avoid creating targets that reward local optimisation at the expense of customers or neighbouring sites.
Qualifications grounded in field operations
Candidates need senior multi-site operations experience and direct responsibility for performance improvement. They should demonstrate the ability to interpret data alongside observation and manager knowledge. Financial literacy and experience developing regional leaders are essential.
Applicants should explain how they identified misleading performance measures and replaced them with a more useful basis for action. Familiarity with reporting tools is helpful, but the central requirement is operating judgement and disciplined follow-through.
A system the permanent team can sustain
Leave clear definitions, a practical review process and managers able to explain their results and decisions. Document data limitations and outstanding structural issues. Reduce unnecessary reporting demands where they consume time without improving control. Success is faster recognition and resolution of performance problems, with a credible link between action and outcome. The network should not depend on the interim director manually reconciling every report or personally chasing every commitment once the assignment has ended; accountability must reside in the line organisation.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Spain usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in Spain
- A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no authorisation. Executive roles for non-EU nationals require a work and residence permit.
