Own the route from build to dependable launch

The director will lead the engineering work required to bring a new or substantially changed digital product into live use. The assignment spans readiness, integration, support and the transition from project attention to ongoing ownership. A launch date is a constraint to manage, not a substitute for evidence that the product can serve its intended users.

Review the remaining work against user outcomes, performance expectations and operational dependencies. Establish a launch plan that distinguishes essential capability from features that can follow later. Identify external integrations, data migration and support arrangements that may determine readiness even where the core software is substantially complete.

What the interim director will control

Lead engineering prioritisation for the launch, coordinate readiness testing and own the technical escalation process. Work with product and operations leaders to agree acceptance evidence and a staged release approach. Material changes in scope, risk acceptance or commercial commitments must be brought to authorised sponsors with clear options.

Rehearse the operational path

Ensure deployment, monitoring, rollback and incident arrangements are rehearsed to a level proportionate to the service. Support teams need usable documentation and a route to engineering expertise. Customers or internal users should not become the first meaningful test of a critical dependency that could have been examined beforehand.

Completion after launch

The engagement should conclude after the product has entered stable operation and permanent ownership is established. Deliver the readiness record, unresolved risk register and a prioritised follow-up plan. Success is measured through a controlled transition, usable service and clear accountability, not simply the announcement of availability. The director must be prepared to challenge a launch assumption when evidence changes while continuing to lead the work necessary to reach an acceptable outcome.
