Industrial technology organisation in Denmark
The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will oversee the commercial implications of industrial technology partnerships, including shared platforms, co-developed solutions and ecosystem arrangements. These relationships can accelerate market access while shifting control over customer experience, intellectual property, pricing and future development in ways that deserve board-level scrutiny.
The partnership decision
Review the strategic rationale for partnering rather than building, buying or using a simpler supplier arrangement. Challenge assumptions about joint demand generation, customer ownership and division of delivery responsibilities. Examine how commercial returns are shared and what happens when one party's priorities change.
Experience of cooperation under changing incentives
Applicants need substantial senior experience in industrial technology commercial strategy, alliances or complex enterprise solutions. They should have negotiated and governed partnerships through changing commercial conditions, including disagreements about scope, economics or customer responsibility. Financial literacy and familiarity with technology product lifecycles are required.
Candidates must be able to explain how they protected strategic optionality without making cooperation unworkable. Personal connections to technology providers are not a substitute for independent judgement and must be disclosed where relevant.
Dependencies, options and expansion evidence
Ask whether the arrangement creates practical lock-in through interfaces, data, sales channels or specialist skills. Assess rights to improve, support or replace the combined offering and the implications of termination for existing customers. Ensure that growth forecasts reflect the partner's actual incentives and capacity, not only the enthusiasm of the negotiating teams.
The director should help the board determine what evidence is needed before expanding a partnership. Early success in a limited deployment may not demonstrate that the model is repeatable across customers or markets.
Independent board contribution
The role requires a commercial leader who understands enterprise technology and can assess mutual dependence without assuming that partnership language guarantees aligned interests. The director will contribute to broader strategy and risk oversight as a member of the board.
The director will scrutinise material partnership proposals and monitor whether the expected value and risk allocation remain valid. Management retains negotiation and operating responsibility. Independence and appointment eligibility will be assessed. Success means that partnerships are entered and expanded for explicit commercial reasons, with understood dependencies, credible customer protections and a practical response if the relationship no longer supports the enterprise's strategy.
