The mandate
Reservoir models, well tests, tracer studies, plant performance and environmental monitoring are managed in different scientific and operational systems. Teams can build investment narratives, but struggle to reproduce which effective data and interpretation supported a drilling, reinjection or generation forecast. Leadership wants governed data products that preserve scientific uncertainty and field context without centralising every specialist workflow.
The deliverable is a Geothermal Reservoir Data-Product Blueprint implemented for pressure response, reinjection effect and sustainable-output outlook. It will include well and field identity, time and depth reference, calibration, provenance, interpretation version, uncertainty, service objectives, access and consumer contracts. Reference products must support reservoir, plant and investment users while keeping authoritative scientific judgement visible.
Milestone one in week three maps three decisions, source evidence and interpretive gaps. Week seven concludes milestone two with product boundaries, contracts and reference models. At week twelve, milestone three provides field trials through an unseen well event and revised interpretation. The accepted blueprint, economics, stewardship model and sequenced implementation backlog form milestone four in week seventeen.
Acceptance requires reservoir scientists to reconstruct three historical decisions from retained versions, plant teams to interpret current operating limits correctly, and investment analysts to trace forecast sensitivities without flattening uncertainty. An unseen pressure anomaly must invoke the agreed qualification and correction path. Both sponsors sign only after internal stewards refresh one product without consultant assistance.
The client will provide well logs, tests, tracer results, reservoir models, plant histories, environmental measurements, calibration records, decision papers and access to field experts. Client engineers will build controlled reference pipelines; scientists retain interpretation approval. The reservoir chief will resolve disputes over authoritative status, while Operations will support the field-event simulation and validate usability.
Why this is external work
Scientists, plant operators and investment teams each preserve evidence suited to their own decisions, but no function can neutrally define reusable boundaries across all three. Platform vendors tend to treat interpretive uncertainty as a metadata field rather than a governed scientific relationship. External work supplies data-product discipline while respecting specialist models and accountable reservoir judgement.
What you will own
- Map drilling, reinjection, sustainable-output and plant decisions to well, reservoir, operational and environmental evidence at effective time.
- Define field, well, interval, sample, test, model and interpretation identities with depth, coordinate, unit and calibration context.
- Establish product contracts for provenance, uncertainty, freshness, correction, service level, access and permissible consumer interpretation.
- Design version relationships that preserve alternative scientific interpretations and prevent a current model silently rewriting historical decisions.
- Trial products through an unseen pressure event, revised calibration and changed reservoir interpretation across scientist and operator workflows.
- Calculate stewardship, integration, compute and support economics against avoided reconstruction and better-timed field decisions.
- Transfer qualification, change, exception and quarterly value review to named reservoir, plant and data-product stewards.

- Productised scientific or industrial data for geothermal, upstream energy, mining, hydrology or another subsurface physical system.
- Integrated well, model, plant and environmental evidence without treating one platform’s schema as the authoritative scientific worldview.
- Preserved alternative interpretations, uncertainty and effective versions through material field or investment decisions.
- Defined data-product contracts usable by scientists, operators and finance while maintaining clear boundaries on interpretation authority.
- Tested products against unseen physical events and can evidence a changed or better-qualified operational decision.
- Transferred stewardship and qualification to internal domain teams without requiring wholesale replacement of specialist scientific tools.
Non-negotiables
- The named architect must work in Reykjavik and participate in operating-field observation subject to site safety requirements.
- No reseller, investment or referral interest may exist with subsurface, historian, cloud or scientific-data platforms considered.
