After a site leader withdrew during an acquired-platform transfer, a biopharma group needs a sixteen-month executive to launch Hyderabad computational biology, prove reproducible discovery workflows and complete succession.
The mandate
The designated Hyderabad leader withdrew days after the group acquired a small omics-model platform whose people, pipelines and licensed datasets must transfer on a fixed timetable. Research sponsors have named roles and savings, but no India executive owns scientific reproducibility, cross-border data boundaries, platform reliability and the shift from service requests to durable discovery products.
The interim must arrive within three weeks and direct the launch for sixteen months. A permanent search starts after two transferred workflows complete independent reproduction in Hyderabad, expected near month ten, with six weeks reserved for the successor to chair a discovery-priority council and approve a production pipeline change before assuming the role.
Handover requires at least 125 accepted hires against an evidence-based skills pyramid, two priority omics workflows reproduced from raw inputs to signed outputs, versioned lineage across data, features, models and environments, passed recovery and access-control exercises, and successor acceptance of the next two-quarter research platform plan. Hiring volume or copied notebooks alone cannot define completion.
The executive may design teams, approve hiring within sanctioned bands, pause pipeline promotion, assign compute and data-engineering capacity, choose temporary delivery partners and move up to ₹18 crore inside the approved launch envelope. Research target selection, licensed-data expansion, wet-laboratory capital, permanent executive appointments and any decision to progress a candidate toward clinical work remain with the governance committee.
Clinical development, molecule selection, wet-lab construction, enterprise IT and broader India shared services are excluded. The seat is accountable for the computational platform, scientific workflow products, evidence controls, leadership bench and global operating interfaces, while scientists retain ownership of biological hypotheses and research conclusions.
Why this seat is open
An unplanned withdrawal removed the person expected to connect an acquisition timetable with a greenfield Hyderabad build. Global research leaders can sponsor individual workflows but cannot provide daily India authority without abandoning active programmes. Temporary leadership is needed to make the transfer scientifically trustworthy before a permanent platform executive inherits the centre.
What you will own
- Re-sequence the launch around scientific products, scarce computational skills, dataset permissions and reproducibility dependencies rather than gross hiring targets.
- Define transfer contracts for each workflow covering biological question, inputs, lineage, reference outputs, validation, operating ownership and escalation boundaries.
- Establish versioned controls across raw omics data, transformations, features, models, environments and interpretive reports so another team can reproduce results.
- Decide whether capability gaps are hired, developed, temporarily borrowed or externally partnered, attaching an exit date to every non-core dependency.
- Allocate accelerator, storage and specialist capacity among research products using learning value, portfolio urgency, evidence readiness and cost.
- Run access-loss, pipeline-recovery and independent-reproduction exercises before any transferred workflow becomes an accepted Hyderabad service.
- Transfer the talent map, scientific product backlog, data rights, platform economics and unresolved research dependencies through two successor-led governance cycles.
Candidate qualifications
- Built or materially scaled a computational biology, bioinformatics or AI discovery platform supporting several active research programmes.
- Transferred omics or molecular workflows across sites while preserving raw-data provenance, environment identity, statistical method and interpretive accountability.
- Led machine-learning, scientific data and platform-engineering teams without treating scientists as generic software delivery resources.
- Governed licensed, consented or sensitive biological data across jurisdictions and can evidence an access decision that changed platform design.
- Reproduced a disputed computational result independently and resolved whether variation arose from data, code, environment or scientific assumption.
- Handed a newly launched research technology organisation to permanent leadership with measured reliability, cost and scientific adoption.
Non-negotiables
- Can start in Hyderabad within three weeks, work on site five days weekly for the first quarter and travel quarterly to Boston or Basel.
- Will accept an exclusive executive commitment through the first twelve months and protect scientific challenge from headcount or savings pressure.
