An automotive group needs a seventeen-month executive to exit a concentrated engineering toolchain whose proprietary models, automation and licence terms now constrain vehicle programme timing and supplier collaboration.

The mandate

A single supplier now controls key requirements, modelling, simulation and test-automation workflows across several vehicle programmes. Renewal terms restrict automation at scale, proprietary formats impede supplier exchange and experienced engineers fear loss of validated history. The board has authorised a seventeen-month exit window after negotiations failed, and the incumbent platform executive cannot lead it because of a declared role in the original long-term agreement.

The interim leader will establish what must be portable, what can be archived with governed access and what should be redesigned rather than translated. Migration covers requirements lineage, behavioural and physical models, simulation assets, test libraries, workflow automation, user extensions and audit evidence. Each vehicle programme needs a risk-shaped route that protects homologation and release while reducing the incumbent’s technical and commercial control.

Permanent engineering-platform leadership must be confirmed by month eleven and direct the last programme transition. Handover requires the successor to chair a model-fidelity dispute, approve a legacy-access exception and defend a licence-exit forecast to sourcing and engineering. The transferred estate includes migration evidence, format decisions, validation boundaries, supplier obligations, skills gaps, retained archives and the remaining decommission schedule.

The seat can freeze new proprietary extensions, set portability requirements, sequence programmes, reallocate approved migration funding, require validation evidence, appoint domain owners and invoke contracted transition support through authorised sourcing channels. It cannot approve vehicle release, change homologation evidence, sign vendor amendments, disclose protected supplier IP, select engineering methods, accept cyber risk or determine workforce consequences.

The remit excludes acting as permanent engineering tools owner, product design authority, homologation officer or procurement signatory. Success means validated programme workflows outside the concentrated toolchain, accessible historic evidence, credible supplier collaboration and a successor able to complete decommissioning. The fixed term is not permission to extend dual tooling indefinitely when hard design or archive choices remain unresolved.

Why this seat is open

Commercial talks exposed how little operational evidence the group possessed about its ability to leave, and a conflict prevents the incumbent executive from directing the transition. Vehicle programmes cannot pause for a conventional succession process. A temporary leader with engineering and exit authority is needed to make format and validation choices, protect releases, use the notice window and establish independent permanent stewardship.

  • Map proprietary dependencies across requirements, models, simulations, test assets, automation, integrations, extensions, licences and expert knowledge.
  • Classify assets for conversion, controlled archive, coexistence, redesign or retirement using programme and evidence consequences.
  • Define fidelity and validation tests for translated models, trace links, automated results and historical release evidence.
  • Sequence vehicle programmes around milestones, supplier readiness, skill capacity, regulatory evidence and recoverable fallback.
  • Govern incumbent transition support, protected intellectual property, extraction tooling and commercial evidence through authorised sourcing routes.
  • Stop new lock-in by controlling extensions, formats, workflow changes and exceptions during the migration window.
  • Induct the successor through contested fidelity and access decisions and transfer the full exit economics and decommission register.

Candidate qualifications

  • Has led exit from a deeply embedded automotive or complex-engineering requirements, modelling, simulation or test toolchain.
  • Understands model fidelity, traceability, validation, automation and historic release evidence beyond file-format conversion.
  • Has protected active programme milestones while migrating engineering workflows used by internal and supplier teams.
  • Can manage incumbent transition duties and intellectual-property constraints without allowing commercial leverage to define technical truth.
  • Has controlled new proprietary extensions during an exit despite pressure from engineers facing immediate delivery deadlines.
  • Demonstrates handover to a permanent platform owner who completed decommissioning without continuing dual-tool dependence by default.

Non-negotiables

  • Will maintain the Frankfurt hybrid base and complete monthly vehicle-programme residencies and quarterly supplier councils.
  • Must disclose relationships with engineering-software vendors, automotive manufacturers, suppliers, integrators and sourcing advisers.
  • Brings an executed engineering-toolchain exit with validated assets; licence negotiation or generic application migration is insufficient.
