Maritime Edge-Data Continuity Authority — Archipelago Logistics
Urgent / Unplanned
Maritime Edge-Data Continuity Authority mandate in Jakarta, Indonesia · Archipelago Maritime Logistics
An Indonesian archipelago-logistics operator needs a fourteen-month executive authority after vessel-edge outages broke cargo visibility, restoring store-and-forward operations and transferring control to a permanent platform leader.
The mandate
The former digital-platform chief left after a sequence of vessel connectivity failures caused cargo events to arrive late, duplicate or in the wrong operational order. Port teams reconstructed priority consignments by telephone, but customers saw unreliable milestones and planners dispatched equipment using stale positions. A planned visibility launch has been halted because the central platform assumes continuous connectivity that much of the network cannot provide.
The interim must join within five weeks for fourteen months, spanning monsoon operations, architecture remediation, fleet deployment and permanent-leader transition. Executive search begins after the disconnected reference design survives three routes in month five. A six-week overlap is planned near the end; extension is possible only if vessel dry-dock schedules delay physical installation despite accepted software readiness.
Handover is achieved when priority cargo journeys preserve ordered, deduplicated and reconciled events through twenty-four hours offline; shore recovery completes inside agreed windows on two peak routes; and customer milestones state known confidence. The successor must command a vessel-to-port continuity exercise, approve the fleet rollout decision and accept residual hardware, satellite, source-quality and route limitations.
The interim may freeze visibility releases, define edge contracts, reprioritise the authorised Rp310 billion programme, select temporary engineering partners and approve vessel deployments inside class and safety boundaries. Long-term satellite contracts, permanent appointments, changes to customer service terms, safety-critical navigation interfaces and spend above budget require sponsor approval. The authority cannot direct vessel navigation or override masters and port safety officials.
Fleet replacement, port-automation strategy and customer commercial remediation are outside this mandate. The leader may require data interfaces from those domains but does not own navigation technology, berth allocation or historical event cleansing with no current operational or contractual consequence. The assignment is confined to trustworthy operational data under intermittent connection and the decisions it supports.
Why this seat is open
The failures exposed a platform built around datacentre assumptions rather than vessel reality, and the executive departure removed authority to resolve that architectural debt. Network, cargo and vessel teams each defend local practices while no one owns the complete event journey. A temporary leader must restore operating continuity before visibility commitments resume and permanent leadership inherits the fleet programme.
What you will own
- Define canonical cargo, equipment, voyage and operational-event identities with ordering, deduplication, correction and confidence rules for disconnected use.
- Establish vessel edge stores, synchronisation protocols, bounded retention, conflict resolution and recoverability appropriate to bandwidth and power constraints.
- Decide which planning and customer decisions may proceed offline, require warning, must wait for reconciliation or need human confirmation.
- Run route trials covering satellite loss, delayed clocks, partial sensor feeds, software rollback, storage pressure and competing shore updates.
- Reconcile edge, port and central histories into an auditable milestone record, exposing rather than masking uncertainty during communication gaps.
- Govern fleet rollout through software readiness, dry-dock access, crew usability, class boundaries, shore support and measured operational improvement.
- Transfer authority via a live voyage exercise, rollout board, vendor review and signed successor acceptance of residual route and source risks.
Candidate qualifications
- Led edge, vessel, transport or remote-industrial data platforms where intermittent connection was normal operating context rather than an exceptional outage.
- Designed store-and-forward event behaviour with identity, ordering, deduplication, conflict resolution and reconciliation across constrained devices and central systems.
- Connected data confidence to physical logistics decisions and customer milestones without encouraging unsafe reliance on stale or incomplete information.
- Managed fleet or distributed-site deployment around maintenance windows, crew adoption, safety boundaries and heterogeneous hardware generations.
- Held executive authority through a maritime, logistics or industrial continuity failure involving multiple vendors and operational command structures.
- Handed permanent leadership an operating platform after route trials, with deployment readiness and remaining physical constraints independently understood.
Non-negotiables
- Available within five weeks for Jakarta-based exclusive service and frequent travel by air and vessel to Surabaya and eastern operating routes.
- Has deployed disconnected edge systems in maritime, mining, energy, transport or similarly remote physical operations at meaningful scale.
- Will respect vessel-master, class, port and safety authority; data-platform leadership confers no navigation or operational-safety command.
- No undisclosed commercial interest in satellite, vessel technology, IoT, integration or cargo-visibility vendors under consideration.
- 49 words maximum. State your Jakarta availability and one disconnected fleet or remote estate for which you held platform authority.
- 49 words maximum. How did your edge design reconcile two valid but conflicting updates after a prolonged communications gap?
- 49 words maximum. Which operational decisions would you prohibit when cargo-event confidence falls below an agreed threshold?
