News-Origin and Revision Evidence Architect mandate in Paris, France · Digital News Publishing
A French news network commissions a four-month provenance design to expose source, edit and synthetic-media history, producing accepted newsroom and audience controls before election coverage.
The mandate
Reporters, agencies, freelancers and audience contributors supply text, image and video through different editorial paths, while generative tools now assist translation, transcription and visual preparation. Current systems preserve published versions but not always source verification, material transformation and correction reasoning in a form an editor or reader can understand. Election coverage needs practical provenance without exposing protected sources.
The deliverable is a News Origin and Revision Evidence Architecture for breaking text, documentary image and short-form video. It will define source classes, verification claims, transformations, synthetic assistance, edit lineage, approval, publication, correction and audience display. Reference journeys must preserve confidential-source separation and newsroom speed rather than demand full public disclosure of internal evidence.
Milestone one in week three provides newsroom observation, threat cases and source-boundary mapping. Week seven concludes milestone two with provenance contracts, architecture and audience-language options. At week twelve, milestone three delivers live newsroom trials and synthetic-media exercises. The accepted design, editorial playbook, supplier requirements and election-readiness plan form milestone four in week seventeen.
Acceptance requires editors to reconstruct fifteen unseen publication decisions, identify source and transformation claims, and issue a correction without erasing original context; visual investigators must detect or explicitly qualify injected provenance breaks; and source-protection leaders must approve disclosure boundaries. The editor-in-chief signs after a newsroom team runs a breaking-event simulation unaided.
The client will provide protected sample assignments, asset histories, edit tools, publication and correction records, agency terms, syndication paths and synthetic-media incidents inside segregated environments. Editors, reporters, investigators and audience teams will join tests. Client engineers build references, while editorial leaders retain publication and source-protection decisions.
Why this is external work
Newsroom teams must publish rapidly, archives focus on retained versions and technology vendors promote content credentials without understanding source protection. No internal owner can redesign all three before election demand peaks. External work can connect technical provenance with real editorial judgement while remaining independent of verification and generative-tool suppliers.
What you will own
- Map assignment, source, capture, agency hand-off, verification, transformation, edit, approval, publication, syndication and correction evidence.
- Define provenance claims for observed, supplied, generated, translated, altered and unverified material without exposing protected identity.
- Design revision history that preserves original publication, material correction, audience notice and downstream syndication obligations.
- Exercise stripped metadata, recaptured image, synthetic insert, translated quote, anonymous source and late agency correction.
- Establish audience language proportional to evidence and uncertainty rather than a binary authentic-or-fake badge.
- Compare standards and tools through newsroom friction, source safety, partner adoption, portability, security and lifecycle cost.
- Transfer provenance change, incident and election-readiness rehearsal to editorial, product and investigations owners.
Candidate qualifications
- Led provenance, verification or newsroom platforms for a major publisher, broadcaster, agency or visual-investigation organisation during live election coverage.
- Governed source and edit evidence across text, image and video while protecting confidential contributors and unpublished investigative methods.
- Designed correction history that survived syndication and did not silently overwrite the publication originally seen.
- Tested content credentials against metadata stripping, recapture, synthetic insertion and adversarial relabelling.
- Worked under breaking-news deadlines where evidence uncertainty needed useful audience communication.
- Delivered vendor-neutral architecture independent of generative, verification or publishing-platform suppliers.
Non-negotiables
- The named architect must lead Paris newsroom observation and the breaking-event election rehearsal.
- No financial relationship may exist with content-verification, generative-media or publishing-platform suppliers evaluated.
- Editors retain publication, correction, source-protection and public-interest decisions.
- Protected source evidence cannot leave segregated newsroom environments or appear in public provenance displays.
- 49 words maximum. Describe a published asset whose provenance claim changed after transformation or agency correction.
- 49 words maximum. How would you show meaningful origin evidence without exposing a confidential source?
- 49 words maximum. Which client materials are needed before a synthetic-media breaking-news exercise can be accepted?
