Bulky-Goods Container-to-Store Flow Recovery Leader mandate in Gothenburg, Sweden · Home Furnishings Import Logistics

A Gothenburg home-furnishings retailer needs a twelve-month leader after port dwell, damage and range-change overlap left bulky imports blocking distribution capacity and missing store launch windows.

The mandate

Old-range furniture, launch products and e-commerce replenishment now arrive through the same port and distribution doors after repeated vessel changes compressed several weeks of supply. Teams prioritise containers by demurrage, stores by launch date and warehouses by cube, producing double handling, concealed damage and stock that is physically present but unavailable as complete customer sets. A second range transition begins in fourteen weeks.

The interim must mobilise within three weeks for twelve months, assuming Nordic inbound-to-store authority through backlog clearance, two range changes and winter port disruption. The first thirty days will establish container, item, set and capacity truth; no blanket intake acceleration is expected. Permanent recruitment begins in month seven, with two launch waves and six weeks of independent daily flow command before handover.

Transfer requires origin release controls, container priority, port and drayage appointments, cube-aware receipt, damage evidence, complete-set availability, range allocation, store capacity, e-commerce segregation, reverse flow and landed-cost exception. Completion is proven when the successor absorbs an unseen vessel bunching, distribution door loss and launch reprioritisation while protecting sellable sets, labour safety and customer truth without interim intervention.

The leader may hold origin release, change authorised port or drayage sequence, reserve overflow space, redirect labour, stop unsafe unload, reallocate approved inventory and release SEK780 million of recovery spend. Range assortment, retail pricing, product safety, supplier claims settlement, carrier tender, store opening date, property commitment and inventory provision above delegation remain with their accountable owners.

This is not a merchandising, ocean-procurement, warehouse-automation or commercial buying role. The interim must not prioritise an incomplete range merely to reduce demurrage, conceal product damage through relabelling, use customer-sold stock to improve store fill, overload racking, discard returns without disposition or shift congestion to a store unable to receive safely. Long-term network property is outside scope.

Why this seat is open

Inbound and retail distribution were managed separately until vessel bunching exposed that port, cube, product completeness and store capacity require one decision. A temporary leader is needed across the two range transitions while the retailer creates and recruits a permanent end-to-end bulky-goods position.

What you will own

  • Reconstruct inbound by container, purchase order, range, item, complete set, cube, port status, damage risk, selling window and destination capacity.
  • Set container priority using product completeness, launch consequence, port cost, damage exposure, warehouse readiness and customer commitments together.
  • Command port, drayage and distribution appointments so vessel bunching does not become uncontrolled yard, door or labour congestion.
  • Protect high-cube and damage-sensitive receipt through handling standards, immediate evidence, quarantine, repair route and accountable supplier or carrier notice.
  • Allocate scarce sellable sets across stores and e-commerce using approved range rules while exposing incomplete and aged components honestly.
  • Exercise four compound events involving vessel bunching, port closure, door loss, product damage, labour constraint and urgent launch change.
  • Transfer authority after the successor leads two range waves and independently recovers an unannounced port-to-store capacity collision.

Candidate qualifications

  • Held executive authority for bulky retail, furniture or comparable high-cube import and store-distribution operations.
  • Managed container, port, drayage, distribution-centre, store and home-delivery dependencies through severe arrival compression.
  • Balanced complete-set availability, cube, damage, demurrage and launch priority without confusing physical receipt with sellable stock.
  • Recovered product-damage evidence and handling discipline across carriers, warehouses, stores, suppliers and customer-return channels.
  • Directed seasonal or range transitions where old and new inventory competed for the same labour, doors and storage.
  • Handed an inbound-to-retail recovery command to permanent leadership through live launch and compounded gateway disruption.

Non-negotiables

  • Can reside in Gothenburg, travel to Nordic ports and distribution centres, and start within three weeks.
  • Direct bulky-goods retail logistics command is required; general ocean forwarding or merchandising experience is insufficient.
  • Will disclose retailers, suppliers, carriers, drayage firms, warehouses, property providers, insurers and advisers.
  • Will not hide damage, overload storage, misuse customer stock, override product safety or decide buying and pricing outcomes.
