The mandate
Virtual and augmented simulations are being proposed for rare assembly faults, inspection anomalies and hazardous recovery tasks that are difficult to practise on live aircraft. Vendors demonstrate immersion, but learning owners cannot show which sensory cues, physical constraints and team interactions transfer into workplace performance. Some users experience accessibility barriers, and simulation scores are drifting toward de facto qualification.
The engagement deliverable is an Immersive Technical Training Architecture covering task selection, physical and cognitive fidelity, instructional design, safe failure, equipment configuration, accessibility, data capture, facilitator practice, evidence validity, refresh triggers and transfer to supervised work. It must define what simulation can support and what still requires authorised observation on real equipment. Rare-event rehearsal must preserve team coordination, tool resistance and interruption cues that materially alter execution.
Milestone one at week four accepts task and feasibility inventories; week eight closes fidelity and evidence standards. Week thirteen completes six prototype task journeys; week eighteen tests transfer against workplace observation. At week twenty-two, accepted specifications, facilitator guides, privacy controls, vendor requirements, pilot evidence and implementation priorities complete delivery.
Acceptance requires technical assessors to compare simulation and workplace performance for representative tasks, Quality to confirm that qualification boundaries remain intact, and Accessibility to validate alternative routes. The Manufacturing President signs only after client facilitators respond to an unseen equipment-configuration change without consultant redesign or inappropriate reliance on simulator scores.
The client will provide approved tasks and procedures, equipment configurations, error histories, qualification rules, workforce populations, accessibility requirements, simulation assets, vendor proposals, observation data and named owners. The consultant does not certify workers, approve engineering, build production software, select vendors, conduct medical assessment, negotiate labour terms or replace workplace qualification.

Training vendors optimise immersion and engineers protect technical accuracy, but neither alone can establish learning transfer, accessible alternatives and appropriate evidence boundaries. Independent architecture can test fit and validity without promoting a device, certifying employees or turning simulated performance into an unauthorised employment decision.
What you will own
- Select rare, hazardous and high-cost practice tasks using consequence, frequency, feasibility and transfer criteria.
- Define perceptual, physical, procedural, social and decision fidelity required for each approved learning objective.
- Design safe-failure, feedback, repetition, facilitator intervention and progression rules for different learner starting points.
- Establish data minimisation, access, retention and prohibition on unvalidated individual performance uses.
- Compare simulation behaviour with independently supervised workplace evidence across equipment configurations, changing shift patterns and learner populations.
- Rehearse equipment revision, missing haptic cue, accessibility need, facilitator deviation and weak transfer.
- Deliver task cases, fidelity rules, evidence framework, facilitator standards, vendor requirements and implementation backlog.
