Vice President, External Reporting and Disclosure Controls mandate in São Paulo, Brazil

Confidential Vice President, External Reporting and Disclosure Controls in São Paulo, Brazil, reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer. Permanent Finance & Accounting appointment at Vice President level, an ongoing appointment; full time.

The mandate

The Vice President will own the permanent discipline by which financial disclosures are sourced, challenged, approved and kept consistent across the reporting package. The role is not a senior proof-reader. It is accountable for turning disclosure requirements and significant accounting conclusions into a controlled production system in which every material statement has a source, owner, reviewer and evidence trail.

The first phase will map disclosure ownership and identify where drafting begins before facts or conclusions are mature. The appointee will compare narrative claims with ledger and accounting-paper evidence, test how late changes propagate and identify recurring dependencies on particular individuals. This fact base will determine which controls need redesign and which complexity can be removed.

The Vice President may set the disclosure calendar, define evidence standards, return unsupported content and require cross-document consistency corrections. Final publication approval remains with designated executives and legal or regulatory interpretations remain with their accountable owners. The role must create an orderly route for disagreement so that drafting teams are not left to resolve substantive accounting questions through wording.

By month six, significant disclosures should have traceable source packs and explicit review criteria. By the end of year one, late factual corrections, internal inconsistencies and undocumented drafting overrides should have materially declined. A disclosure committee will operate to a forward agenda that surfaces new requirements and judgment-sensitive narratives early.

The leader will build a resilient reporting bench able to draft analytically, challenge senior contributors and maintain version discipline. The longer-term standard is a process that remains rigorous when the content changes, rather than a collection of controls designed around last year’s document.

What you will own

  • Define a disclosure-control framework covering requirements inventory, source ownership, evidence, review, approval and change propagation.
  • Establish a forward calendar that connects accounting decisions and balance completion to the earliest credible drafting point.
  • Require source packs for material quantitative and qualitative statements and reject assertions that cannot be independently traced.
  • Chair cross-functional disclosure reviews that distinguish accounting, legal, factual and presentational questions by accountable owner.
  • Control versions and late changes so that consequential updates reach every affected table, note and narrative assertion.
  • Report disclosure defects and near misses by root cause, then direct corrective action toward systemic weaknesses.
  • Maintain a horizon view of requirements and sponsor dry runs where new disclosures depend on unfamiliar evidence.
  • Develop senior reporting talent and clear deputies capable of running the governance calendar.

Candidate qualifications

  • Demonstrate executive ownership of external reporting and disclosure controls under demanding publication timetables.
  • Show a material inconsistency you detected across statements, notes or narrative and the control change that prevented recurrence.
  • Provide evidence of converting technical accounting conclusions into precise, decision-useful disclosure without obscuring uncertainty.
  • Explain how you managed a late change whose consequences extended across several reporting components.
  • Evidence productive challenge with legal, accounting and executive contributors while keeping their responsibilities distinct.
  • Describe measures that exposed hidden drafting rework and overdependence on individual knowledge.
  • Show how you built a reporting team capable of judgment, not only document administration.

Working terms and boundaries

  • This is a permanent full-time role with first-year checkpoints at disclosure mapping, control adoption and year-end operation.
  • The Vice President controls reporting process and evidence standards but does not hold every legal, accounting or publication approval.
  • Incentives reward durable quality, timely escalation and team capability rather than an absence of reported issues alone.
  • Hybrid presence will be concentrated around drafting workshops, governance meetings and critical reporting windows.
  • Current financial interests and recent assurance, legal or reporting engagements require pre-access conflict review.
