A framed portrait beside a practical financial discipline
Obsidian / The Frame places a clear account of professional practice alongside the person behind it. Its demonstration leader is Akiko Suzunara, a fictional Japanese CFO whose experience runs from packaging accounts to financial leadership in personal-care manufacturing. Her work concerns the obligations that remain after a product ships: promotional claims, production commitments and assumptions inside capital proposals. The design gives those subjects an ordered seven-page presentation. It suits a leader who wants a substantial professional record with a strong visual opening, without relying on awards, press coverage or a regular publishing programme.
A portrait with a defined place in the composition
The opening pairs the name and headline before moving into a framed photograph and numbered areas of expertise. The image sits inside a visible mat rather than filling the whole screen. On desktop, that frame and the practice list form two complementary columns; on mobile, they become a vertical reading sequence. The treatment gives the portrait presence while keeping the financial position close at hand. Akiko's tailored office portrait works because her face remains legible within the surrounding space. A replacement photograph should be checked in the actual crop, especially if the source contains a large meeting table or other foreground detail.
Dark surfaces with warm, readable evidence
The Obsidian palette uses a deep blue-black background, slightly lighter panels, warm pale text and a restrained sand accent. Fine borders establish the frame and divide supporting records. Archivo gives the larger lettering a direct, structured character, while Jost carries navigation and reading detail. The combination supports the design's emphasis on ordered evidence rather than decorative calligraphy. Figures and captions need to remain readable against the dark surface; avoid introducing brand colours that reduce that contrast. The print treatment of Career and Board Readiness switches to a light document presentation for practical circulation outside the website.
Measures that explain an executive remit
Akiko's opening measures identify annual group revenue, the finance team and the length of her career. They are deliberately different from the production figures in her case studies. The revenue caption includes its reporting period, while the team caption explains the central and site structure. Her narrative states that qualified technical colleagues retain authority for product safety and release. This is a useful discipline for a manufacturing CFO's site: scale can establish context without implying ownership of every decision made in a large company. The complete home introduction and proof-point explanations let a reader examine those boundaries after the visual opening.
An evidence register that leads to difficult choices
Three linked entries introduce the Impact cases. The first keeps late retailer support costs inside a launch review. The second explains why a positive-margin private-label contract was allowed to expire after revised operating terms were declined. The third replaces a single equipment payback story with a sequence of decisions tied to staffing and technical readiness. Each case preserves the credible argument against the chosen action. The register is therefore a route into judgement, not a list of promotional claims. For a real profile, select decisions with different sources of difficulty and explain the consequences that remained after approval.
Appointments presented as separate frames of responsibility
Career extends the visual language through numbered, bordered appointments. Each frame contains dates, title, organisation, scope and a narrative explaining the work. Akiko's five stages distinguish supervised packaging accounts, product-cost analysis, category finance, group control and the CFO remit. The concurrent subsidiary directorship is identified within her current responsibilities rather than invented as another employment period. This structure is useful when several promotions occurred at one company: the reader can see how authority changed without treating the employer's entire scale as a constant personal mandate. The separate Profile page explains how those experiences shaped her questions.
Board foundations with the limits stated beside the contribution
Board Readiness begins with paired areas of evidence and commitment before moving into judgement examples and the proposed approach to a new seat. Akiko distinguishes her executive subsidiary directorship from attendance at the parent board and from a possible external appointment. Her proposed eighteen-day commitment is subject to consent and a review of relationships with suppliers, customers and competitors. The page gives a chair enough context to examine fit without suggesting that every CFO should chair an audit committee. Contact then asks for the business and oversight context behind an enquiry, keeping product specifications and customer terms out of an initial personal message.
Questions about this design
- Is the framed layout intended only for finance executives?
- Its ordering can serve several leadership disciplines. The fictional CFO demonstrates how a portrait, a concise practice list and an evidence register work together. An operations leader could use the same composition with a different remit and different decisions. The content should explain the person's own authority rather than borrow the financial claims in this example.
- What belongs in the numbered expertise list?
- Choose capabilities that you can substantiate on the Expertise page. Akiko's list separates promotion economics, production capacity, investment readiness and financial control. Four specific areas usually give a reader more direction than a long collection of broad leadership labels. Each should lead to an explanation of how you actually investigate a problem.
- Can subsidiary-board experience appear without overstating it?
- Yes. Identify the entity, capacity and period, and distinguish executive appointments from independent service. Akiko also separates parent-board presentations from membership. Use the Board Readiness narrative to explain what the experience supports and what you still need to learn before taking a different kind of seat.
- How much material is needed before selecting this design?
- Prepare a coherent biography, five to seven dated appointments, several substantive areas of expertise and three decisions with evidence. Include an accurate board contribution and an approved contact route. The seven-page example shows the intended depth; it does not require a public award history or a library of published articles to look complete.
