Interim Diagnostic Services Operations Lead

Healthcare operations organisation in Thailand

The problem this seat exists to solve

Candidates should bring leadership experience in diagnostic service operations or closely connected hospital functions. They must understand the coordination of requests, appointments or sample flows, technical capacity and result delivery. The role requires respect for the professional authority of authorised diagnostic and clinical leaders; it does not grant permission to interpret results or perform regulated clinical work.

The assignment

The interim lead will improve the reliability and timeliness of diagnostic operations across the patient pathway. Review demand, scheduling, specimen or patient readiness, equipment availability and the process for delivering results to the responsible clinician. Identify where a delay reflects actual capacity and where it arises from incomplete requests, rework or poor coordination.

Protect the whole chain

Lead operational changes that reduce avoidable waiting and repeated visits. Work with clinical and technical leaders to establish appropriate escalation for time-sensitive work and unclear requests. Ensure improvements at one stage do not overwhelm the next, such as increasing collection volume without sufficient processing or reporting capacity.

Coordinate maintenance, consumables and staffing plans with the expected workload. Where equipment or specialist capacity is constrained, develop options and explain their service consequences. The lead must not substitute an administrative target for the quality checks or professional review required by the service.

Authority, evidence and handover

Within delegated authority, the lead will manage operational priorities and implement the agreed improvement plan. Clinical protocols, technical validation and interpretation remain with authorised specialists. Material procurement and staffing changes require the relevant approval.

Assess results through turnaround reliability, repeat work, missed appointments or unusable samples as relevant, and the experience of receiving clinical teams. Use measures that distinguish urgent and routine work rather than rewarding one at the expense of the other without an explicit decision.

The engagement should leave clear ownership of the diagnostic pathway and a practical capacity plan. Handover must include remaining bottlenecks, equipment dependencies and the conditions under which service commitments can be met. The permanent team should be able to maintain the operating improvements and recognise deterioration early, without relying on the interim lead to resolve every exception personally.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Thailand usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in Thailand
A non-resident director attending board meetings does not require a work permit. Executive and resident roles require a non-immigrant visa and work permit.
