The problem this seat exists to solve

The adviser will assess impaired commodity exposures and help decision-makers compare recovery strategies. The assignment requires a current, evidence-based view of claims, goods, cash flows and counterparties rather than reliance on the assumptions used when the transaction was approved.

Establish the recoverable position

Reconcile outstanding amounts, documents, collateral information and available transaction evidence. Identify gaps requiring legal, operational or forensic review. Examine the cost of delay, including storage charges, deterioration, market movement and the risk that control over goods or proceeds weakens.

Recovery advice

Compare negotiated repayment, controlled disposal, restructuring and other available routes with specialist input. Present expected timing, costs, dependencies and downside outcomes. Recommend information requests and decision gates that preserve flexibility while avoiding unnecessary delay.

Recovery options should be compared on net proceeds and practical control, including the cost of storage, verification, transport and professional support. The adviser should identify actions that preserve value while a wider strategy is assessed, subject to proper authority. Distinguish an enforceable claim from a collectible amount and explain uncertainties rather than collapsing them into one recovery estimate. Decision papers should also identify conflicts among interested parties and dependencies that could prevent a commercially attractive route from being executed in time.

Qualified candidates

Candidates should have hands-on experience in distressed trade finance, commodity workouts or collateral recovery. They need commercial negotiation judgement and the ability to coordinate lawyers, inspection providers and operational teams. Evidence of recovering value from a complex or disputed transaction is important.

The board or credit authority’s decision pack

Outputs should distinguish established facts, uncertain claims and recovery assumptions. Candidates should explain a case where the apparently highest recovery route was inferior after time, cost and execution risk were considered. The adviser does not exercise enforcement powers or promise recovery; action remains with authorised parties under appropriate professional advice.

Appointment
Advisory engagement

Before you apply — an advisory engagement

No office of director, and no appointment formalities.

An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Singapore. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.

On this brief
Independence
Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
