Retail organisation in Sweden
The problem this seat exists to solve
The advisor will assess the economics and operating design of digital retail channels, including fulfilment and customer service. The engagement must distinguish attractive customer demand from volume that increases cost faster than contribution. It will support decisions about channel proposition, service levels and investment, using the economics of the complete shopping journey.
Build the real cost picture
Review order composition, picking, packing, delivery, returns, substitutions and customer support. Identify costs allocated elsewhere that are essential to the channel. Examine whether promotional acquisition creates repeat customers and whether repeat demand retains the same economics once introductory offers end.
Compare fulfilment approaches and service promises across customer segments and order types. Assess how digital demand affects store operations and whether internal charging distorts the apparent performance of either channel. Make capacity constraints visible, particularly where a service promise becomes expensive during peak demand.
Choices to present
Develop options for minimum orders, delivery windows, pricing, fulfilment design and channel integration, where relevant to the proposition. Explain likely customer consequences and identify assumptions requiring testing. Recommend a measured experimentation programme with clear contribution, retention and service-quality criteria.
The advisor will provide independent analysis and facilitate decisions; live commercial changes remain with management. Technology investment should follow a validated operating need. Any proposed use of customer information must be reviewed through the appropriate privacy and data-governance process.
Candidate discussion: when growth should slow
Applicants should have led or evaluated digital commerce with a strong understanding of fulfilment operations and customer economics. Evidence should include a case where growth was slowed, repriced or redesigned because the service model was unsustainable. The ability to reconcile financial data with operational observation is essential.
The economics management must be able to explain
Deliver a transparent economic model, decision options and a realistic test plan. State where data is insufficient and how that uncertainty affects the recommendation. Success means management can explain which customers and shopping missions the channel serves well, what service it can afford to promise and which investments are justified by repeatable value. The output should make future decisions easier without becoming a permanent analytical dependency.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Sweden. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
