Transport and operational technology organisation in Sweden

The problem this seat exists to solve

Lead the improvement of communications continuity across a distributed infrastructure operation. The remit covers the connections on which operational coordination, system control and service support depend. Apparent redundancy can be misleading when supposedly independent services share power, physical routes, configuration practices or a common management dependency.

Expose shared failure points

Establish the communications paths required to sustain the most important operating activities. Work with engineering and service providers to identify common failure points and verify the assumptions behind fallback arrangements. Where information cannot be obtained, make the uncertainty visible in the investment and operating decision.

Demonstrate degraded-service coordination

Plan controlled failure and restoration exercises with operational owners. Determine what remains possible when bandwidth, connectivity or communication channels are degraded, and which activities must pause. Ensure staff know how to coordinate when the normal collaboration and reporting tools are also affected.

Remediate the dependencies and preserve the design

Direct remediation of the highest-consequence weaknesses, balancing physical diversity, technical design and support capability. Require suppliers to substantiate resilience claims with evidence relevant to the actual service paths. Review configuration and maintenance processes for changes capable of compromising both primary and fallback arrangements at once.

Own programme execution, technical acceptance and the transfer of improved arrangements to permanent support. Operational leaders authorise service-affecting tests and determine the activities permitted under degraded conditions. Ensure these decisions are recorded before an exercise begins.

Handover must include verified service paths, tested fallback instructions and an explicit list of remaining shared dependencies. Establish a review mechanism that detects when later changes invalidate the continuity design. Success is evidence that the operation can sustain an agreed level of coordination during credible failures, not simply a higher count of redundant components.

Engineering evidence from candidates

Qualified candidates will have led network, communications or infrastructure resilience delivery in a distributed and availability-sensitive organisation. They should demonstrate how they discovered and resolved common-mode failure, coordinated live testing and converted technical findings into operating decisions.

Applicants need sufficient engineering understanding to challenge a resilience diagram and sufficient executive judgement to prioritise work under financial and operational constraints. Explain a case in which nominal redundancy did not provide the expected continuity, including the organisational changes needed to correct it. Leadership through suppliers and geographically dispersed teams is essential.

Before you apply — this is an executive role

An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Sweden usually does not.

This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.

Position in Sweden
A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no work permit. Executive roles for non-EU/EEA nationals require a work permit through Migrationsverket.
